Opening night was last night. It's good to be back in the gym. Exif should be there, C&C as always.

Damn nice John. Very good job on the strobes I can't find any shadows on any of these.

Thanks Dan,

The strobes are bounced in this gym, which is wonderful. I'm off to the girls league games tonight, so I'll see you guys tomorrow.

These are really well done but I always have something to complain about... the odd crops are too tight. If you're going to print them, or even just to display online, I'd prefer to see them in a standard crop or left to the original ratio. It looks like you're trying to go too tight and you're losing some room for movement in the image.

A picture is worth a thousand words...these are Minnesotans’!!

I take it you use AB800's...two, or three? Bounced off ceiling or back wall?
They are very nice - very nice!!

Thanks Hoff,

I cropped these specifically for POTN. The images uploaded for sale are cropped as 8x10 usually.

And since you brought it up, I wonder if anyone has thought on this: Fill the Frame vs. Leave Room for Cropping. Meaning, if you get a very tight shot that will crop well in 4x6, but it won't fit well into 8x10, what do you do if someone wants an enlargement? Cut off the feet in 8x10, or only offer an odd size like 8x12 ?

It happened to me once when I had three teammates in the same shot. Trying to crop the shot at 8x10 cut off half of the outside guys. I learned my lesson and I'm cafeful about what sizes I offer for prints now, but I wonder what others do with tight shots like that.

Thanks Magic, although I've not heard that quote before ?? What does that mean?

I used 2 B800's, which bounce off the back wall and the ceiling. Here's the set up... http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=624272

Minnesota - Land of 10,000 lakes - in your case 10,000 words! Just a play on words!:D

Your crops are good John, the tighter the better. I always crop them tight for my site then when someone orders a print I'll re-crop it for the print.

Great setup - no one to mess with your tripods. I don't have a wall - bleachers on all four sides but we have a balcony. Only concern - while I'm on the floor shooting, someone is triping, messing, etc with the lights upstairs. Maybe I can have one of my kids guard them?

Have you tried the new CyberSync's from AB or are you happy with PW's?

Dan I do the same thing and I also let the customer know that images on the web are cropped for the web. When printed image could look different.

Magic, I haven't used the CyberSync's so I can't comment. The PW's are flawless, or "Minnesotans." :)

Simply awesome John. You got it dialed now man! I got in the habit of using the crop that MaxPreps requires something like 1600x2166. I have to Dl the action again but it give guidelines and what ever fits in the lines will print fine from 4x6 out to about 16x20. Kinda lazy I guess but it saves me from re cropping.

I use that same action, but it leaves the crop pretty loose some times.

Thanks Scott. I'd like some info on those guidelines if you have any.

If you use Lightroom you can use that same crop as well.

You just custom enter 16x21.6 or 21.6x16 and when you output you just enter 2166 2166 in both boxes and you will get a perfect 1600x2166 image :) Cuts down on processing BIG TIME from using CS

Damn you Matt, why couldn't you have posted this at the beginning of football season. I tried a bunch of different things in LR and couldn't get it to work. I'll try that when I get home.

I got behind a bit...

Scott, thanks for the offer, but Matt's post seems to cover it.

Matt, thanks, I'll try at home.

Liam, Kids are fun to shoot. I like it when they pop.

Maddog, I used the 70-200 f/4

Dan sorry :)

Yeah super duper easy lol Like I said it saved me a ton of processing time by being to do it in LR. Plus you can sync settings, crop, export, upload, name, DONE.

With CS you had to import one by one, press ctrl F5, align, etc.., etc.., etc.. lol :)

If you need help give me a call. Phone number is on my website
