So I know its a simple P&S, but can you take good water drop shots and other cool pics like that with an A85?

Lighting suggestions? shutter, AF and ISO number would be nice...I've tried, and just can't get them. Is it even possible?

Try using the macro seting, hold it steady and get close.

water drop is small. you have to stack 1 or 2 sets of closeup +4 filters and a slave flash bounce to get the effect

set to high speed like 1/500sec to 1/1000sec to freeze the water drop

I was successful using my Digital Elph S230. Attached is a sample photo of one of the shots I've got of the waterdroplet.
You just need to be extremely steady. The response time of the A85 may not be as fast as the Elph but with a little luck and patience, you should have no problems.

The method I used was simple. I did not use any filters, closeups or additional flash. How I've done it was set myself steady on a chair then zoomed into the frame. Place water infront of black garbage bag to get reflection from the flash. I am only using the Elph S230 which has the flash built in and no option for additional units.

I had to experiment many times before getting a hang of it and realized that the apature need to be actually smaller than larger because of it being so close. The flash is pretty powerful for such a small unit. Sync speed is tricky not to get hand shake so hold yourself to something firm.

ExposureTime : 1/60Sec
FNumber : F10.0
Flash : Fired
FocalLength : 10.81(mm)
MacroMode : On
CCD Sensitivity : ISO100

nice photos. which camera was used? With slave flash will allow better control of lighting. :)
