Shot these beans on the table before my daughter's birthday party with the 135mm /f2 wide open. Colorful shot showing how narrow the DOF is on this lens.

WOW! That's something, what have you got there, about 2" of sweet spot? Jelly beans look good also, one of my favorite candies.

Some thoughts...

The photos look underexposed.
The reflections are distracting.
The white balance looks off.
Could have used a slightly smaller aperture.

They are a bit under.
Next to a bare window. Curtains would have helped soften the reflections, but even my wife can't get me to hang curtains. :)
didn't mess with WB so it could be off.
Purposely went wide open to show DOF.

Thanks for your comments. ;)

To me the pictures are not too intersting, yet they gave me a craving for jelly beans so I am so conflicted

Probably a personal preference (the "eye of the beholder" thing) but I think a smaller aperture would have put more of the luscious jb's in focus and tempted my buds a bit more.....interesting as is but not as the eye really sees it with such a narrow dof. Gimme more beans!

IMHO the narrow dof puts most of those delicious jelly beans just out of reach. Such is life.

So, nobody likes fuzzy jelly beans.  I'll have to find another subject for my DOF experiments.

I think the purpose here was to illustrate the narrow DOF of this lens. For that purpose the photo is colorfully successful. Perhaps it is misplaced in the Critique Forum.

If it is a study in DOF it probably shouldn't be in the critique forum, the comments we are making are looking at the image as a finished work.
