OK, I'm confused. I got this L-358 yesterday, installed the wireless module and I now realize I have n idea how to use this thing. The manual seems to be written for someone who knows about meters so it is next to useless to me. Fortunately, what I needed to do today didn't require me to use it. But now I'm staring at this thing wondering where to start. I turn it on and it just flashes "ch 1" at me. Is there any help out there?

Go to www.ilovephotography.com - there is a very basic quick intro article about using the 358 there.

Do you have Pocket Wizards connected to some sort of strobes? The wireless module will only trigger PW's. Here is a link to the manual.

Yes, I have 2 pocketwizards. The other lights are triggered via slaves.

I read the link since I am thinking of buying this light meter and it says the following

Before you start shooting with your strobe for real, you'll have to remove the sync cord from the meter, and attach it to your camera's sync terminal so that it makes the connection between camera and strobe. Now you're ready to go

Whats this last step?

If the meter said 1/60th @ F8 then why wouldnt I just set my camera to that and shoot? Why do I need to attach the meter to the camera, is it to fire the camera fromt he meter or something?

.......but it doesn't say to connect the meter to the camera does it. It says remove the sync cord from the meter and attach it to your camera. I haven't looked at the link but presumably in the configuration they're using the strobes are connected to the meter via a sync cord rather than by a wireless arrangement, so all it's saying is to remove the sync cord from the meter and connect it to the camera so the camera can fire the strobes rather than the meter firing the strobes.

Once the metering is done, the cable has to be removed from the meter and returned to the camera's PC port. That's what the text is talking about.

Oh yeah, they were connected via a sync cord so I guess you would have to put the sync cord on the camera to now fire the stobe with the camera instead of the meter DUHHH!!

Sorry I had a blonde moment
