My favorite lens is my 24 - 70 (versatility), my second favorite is my 300 (ulta sharp). I am contemplating seling my 17 - 40 and replacing it with a 135 L? Any opinions?

It depends on your needs. I personally would not give up the width between 17 and 24mm. It doesn't sound like much, but it really is.
I chose to cover as much of the focal range as possible with zooms before picking up the primes. But that was me, and my situation is likely completely different from yours.

So what are you going to use to take pictures of the San Francisco skyline, the Pacific coastline, and California grape orchards?
17-40L - a good lens
135L - an outstanding lens
I own them both and consider them indepensable for certain types but very different kinds of photography. I wouldn't consider selling either.

Did you buy the kit lens? I use my 18-55 for wide angle. I know it's nothing optically compared to your 17-40L, but you might consider getting it. It's really cheap, and light, and if you don't use wide angle much you don't hafta worry about wasting much money. But the fact that you have the wider focal lengths gives you more flexibility.
