Amazing performance from Public Enemy, a band I grew up listening to religiously! To be honest, over the years I have lost track of what these guys have been up to, mainly as my musical tastes have veered into more guitar based style. So my eyes lit up when Flava Flav announced they would be playing It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back from the beginning to end - the album I grew up with!! Sweet!!

4 is excellent; minor nitpick is that the back spot isn't in the best location (had it been behind the head or further away, i think the image would have been strengthened).

that's a roomy photo pit! (based on #9)...where'd you shoot from to get #6? good angle.

i barely recognized chuck d (he *is* in #7, right?)

and what's w/ the 'that's how we roll' birds?

I love #4 - did you blur the background in PP or was that from the lens? Yes the spot behind him would ideally have had more seperation but not too much can do about that sometimes, can't always get the perfect angle.

#6 - love the angle for this pic.

#9 - although you can't see Flava's face, this is great shot. Great audience participation shot with all the fists in the air.

I've always wanted to see Public Enemy. Was supposed to see them 2 years ago at Rock the Bells, but due to traffic got there right as they were getting off the stage, but got to listen to 2 songs walking up to the venue.

yeah man you could have parked a truck (ok, a small car) in the pit area. awesome to have that much space for once!

06 was shot from standing on the speaker stack visible just above the bouncers head in 09 - i take the "access all areas" pass to literally mean wherever I want to go I will go! the bouncer actually gave me a leg up to get onto that stack too! hehehe

yeah man that is chuck d alright!

those how we roll chicks were just in the crowd. not sure what their deal was but i showed the girl in 08 her pic and she wasn't too fazed by it. i said "that's a pic of you about to get a "bro shake" from flava flav!!" (thinking she would want a copy - hence a quick sale) and she was like: "meh!" weird? why would she be there if not a fan? maybe she was drunk? maybe she was blind? maybe she was blind drunk?

all of these were shot with the brick (gotta love the brick!)

nah man, that background in 04 was not blurred in ps, but i did use flash to freeze flava flav and the blur was from a combination of slow shutter speed and the flash not reaching the background. i processed in lightroom.

mate, while i don't fully understand the plight of the black man in US history it is hard to not feel emotionally moved when watching public enemy. they have an energy and enthusiasm that compels an audience to listen. i left the gig feeling i had the solution to problem i hardly know anything about.

"fight the powers that be..." that could mean anything to me, but i sang along with everyone else. :)
