Ok i'm realy confused on what to do now:confused:
I have a Canon 75-300 mm USM non is lens and the results i get from it are at best avarage. I am planning to buy the Canon 100-400 L lens next year but untill then i can only aford a cheapish lens.
A mate has the new Minolta 7D and with his old Sigma 100-300mm f4.5-6.7 DL lens gets far better results than the Canon zoom can muster.
Has anyone used this lens on a Digital Canon before.
Are there any better lens's for the price?

Hi, Simon.
I have that lens and I occasionally get usable photos with it using my DRebel, but most are poor in quality. The lens is not sharp nor is it very contrasty.

edited to add that you might want to look at the 70-300 f/4-5.6 APO Zoom Macro Super II instead of the 100-300 DL.

The sigma 100-300 DL is the cheapest telezoom that sigma make.It is great value for an entry level zoom but it SHOULDN'T be getting better pics than the EF75-300 .
I've used three 100-300 DL's and five 75-300's,the canons were allways better,if only by small amounts sometimes.
You must have a dud lens or your mate has better photoshop skills(?)
If you want a good telezoom lens until you can aford the 100-400L then there are two good choices:
Canon 100-300 USM.This is sharper than the 75-300,better built and has genuinely fast USM focus (the 75-300's only have a 'fake' type of usm)

I have done a 100-300/75-300 comparison-it starts on that page.
Sigma 70-300 Apo macro super II.Also sharper than the ef75-300 and has very good closup ability (1:2 macro ratio)
