I've never shot street until about a week ago. It always felt a little perverse and voyeuristic - I tend to have alot of trouble pointing cameras towards random people on the street. None of these shots below show me directly point the lens towards someone facing me, but I think I'm getting there. Comments welcome. Oh, and all of these were shot in the streets of Sydney.

Very nice. I have the same problem. Been wanting to get downtown and take some shots, but I've been just a little too self-conscious about it.

I don't think you necessarily have to have people in the frame to categorize as "street", no?
I can certainly understand feeling a little shy about straight ahead street portraits. That's not my bag and you need to have some guts to do it I suppose. But I would feel uncomfortable having my pic taken that way so I usually try not to return the favor!
Nice shots!

Maybe we should get one of those 90 degree "spy" lenses...lol

Haven't shot weddings before, but I got pretty close today. While 'streeting', I ran into a bride and groom posing for their proper photographer. I couldn't waste this opportunity:

I love the expressions the other photog's show while taking pictures and looking at what they just shot. It makes me want to stop and look at some of mine to make sure Im not looking angry or like a crazy psychopath. ;)

Thanks for the comments everyone! Looks like there are a few fans of the piano shot.
Henry, I've certainly developed an affinity for papping other photogs. I've also caught a few others trying to pap me too. Oh.. us kinky photographers.

Looks fun, man. I like seeing stuff from other countries. I haven't traveled. I like the selective coloring you did on some of the pics. Real nice effect. How do you do it, personally? Do you use the polygonal lasso? and desaturate the rest? I'm not that talented in PS

Yeah, that's one common way of doing it. I haven't done that much selective desaturation though! I think only one or two shots. ;)

Hey Collin85, are you using that 17-55 to get those shots? If so, I'd be impressed =p

Ugh, I wish I could say yes so I could prove your 17-40L-loving-ass an important point. :p
Unfortunately not though.. 98% of these were with the 85/1.8. :)

You've put together a nice piece of work. Street photography interests me too, but I'm also intimidated. I hope to overcome that this year.

Nice shots! I prefer to display street shots in black & white as I think they have more impact that way.

Favorites...
#3 from the first set. I'm generally not a huge fan of selective color, but it works really well there.
The skateboard, also back on the first page -- very nice capture!
The drummer, back on page 1.
The piano: they just look like they're having fun!
