I've been fortunate enough to get my hands on an EIZO FLEXSCAN L771 monitor that I'm very pleased with but ...... do I need to callibrate this ?

I have a MONACO OPTIX XR callibrator but I'm not sure whether that is relevant to a monitor of this type, given its onboard callibration hardware.

Any advice appreciated.

Have you had a poke around the Eizo website to see what they say about calibration?

The Eizos don't have onboard calibration hardware per se. Yes, calibrate. Your calibrator is supported by your monitor, as far as I'm aware.

We use the EIZO monitors here at work and we calibrate them with the Eye One. Makes a big difference
