I wanted this photo to look antique-ish, tell me what ya think...

I like the photo but if the effect was to place the color cast into the image, then I think it's a bit on the rosy side.
I expect the head piece to be white, and maybe it's not, but the skin matches the color cast also.
And although the idea is great, I was really disappointed when I saw how fake those flowers were! Maybe a bit if blur might make them look more realistic?
The only other thing I noticed, and this is only my opinion, is that I'm not sure about how much I like the direction the eyes are looking. They seem to want to throw my focus to the left while the flowers want to draw my attention to the right.
Otherwise I love the lighting effect!

Augum, you may have accomplished your goal. However,
1. Have to agree with fake flower comment
2. Skin tones are off. Might be part of your antique processing to make image have a cast on it, I dont know.
3. Did you process the skin? looks a little blurred.
4. The eyes are a touch over sharpened for me.
However, other than the color cast, I like the image. cute subject.

Well, I am looking at this on my laptop under battery power, so can't judge on color, however, I absolutely love this. I do agree with the fake flowers though, anytime you are going to do a close up on flowers, go to the extra expense to buy some fresh flowers, it makes an awesome difference. I use some of the more expensive realistic fake flowers in backgrounds, but if the flowers will be anywhere near the main subject, I get real ones. I personally like the processing, as I am a fan of smoother skin. After all, women have been programmed to admire smooth skin from all the overprocessed, unrealistic models in magazines. Other than the flowers, the only thing I would change is more dramatic lighting instead of the flat lighting.

I'm surprised you call this flat lighting! I consider flat to have zero shadows. This is the sort of ratio that's great for high key, but the background sort of took that away...

Thank you all!! I would have loved to have real flowers, but sadly enough our town barely has a store!! I will get some though next time I go to a bigger place and try that!! She loves her picture taken so she will be tickled:)

I consider this flat lighting because there are no shadows on the face. There is the tiniest hint of a loop, but for children this age and older, a little more shadow can be brought in since they can sit still and follow direction better than younger kids. I love augum's portraits that I have viewed from previous posts, and there is a lot I can learn from them. I think this portrait would be absolutely amazing with a 2 to 1 or maybe even a 3 to 1 rembrandt lighting. But with all things in art, we have our opinion and this is just mine. I feel this could be an award winning print with just a few minor changes. And if this were my daughter, I would definitely have it printed as a 20x24 and put it up in my home.

I am very new, this question will show my ignorance but I really love to take pics and want to know. My son is terminall ill and I want to capture every moment of his life but I want the pics to be great, some of mine have a lot to be desired. Did you edit the color on this, the color is amazing and none of my photos have the color that pops like yours?

This begs for a soft focus lens or PP equal IMO. The fake flowers in blur might not show them as being fake too. :D

Thank you again all. Doublehmom, I am very sorry for what you are going through. I did edit the color, I desaturated it in RAW editing. I then added a little contrast and softened her skin with portrait professional (which I usually just use on SR's but, I wanted a kinda smooth look) then I outlined her eyes and used unsharpen mask. I hope this helps, I have nothing fancy, just use Adobe Elements 6.
