I have Kirk brackets on my 1D MkIII and 40D. No problems with either.

I had an L Bracket from Kirk for my 5D. I worked great - no problems at all. Actually, if I were to nit-pick I would say that the bracket was a little tight on the side and made access to connectors difficult. If you use a remote controller like I do (TC-80N3) then this would be the only slight inconvenience with the bracket - it makes connecting and disconnecting the controller a bit difficult as there is little room for my fingers.
For my new 5DMKII, I am also on the wait list for the Really Right Stuff bracket. I chose to try the RRS bracket as a change and to see if their design provided any better access to the connections on the side.
I don't think you can go wrong with an L Bracket from either company.

order the RRS one. I was put off with the backorder situation myself, combined with the fact they charge you when you order, but I ordered the week of Xmas and it shipped this week. And there were 300 orders in front of me when I called.
Mine is set to be here Monday I think (damn them living in CA!)... I can't wait because now I can finally do my focus micro adjustments and some other lens tests I've been waiting on....

I wasn't charged (and still haven't been).

I ordered about a week ago. Mine will ship probably next week. I was #274 as of a few days ago, and they're making about 40-60 pieces a day. Each machine can only do 20 a day, so even if they put four machines on it they're pumping out a whopping 80/day.

I second the notion to get the RRS one too. Never, ever been disappointed with their stuff.

weird, did you order over the phone, or online? I called, asked questions, then didn't order on the phone because I didn't want to pay for a backorder (w/o asking that question). But then I was thinking I'll be getting it anyway, and I had the money in my paypal, so I broke down and ordered it online that afternoon...
maybe online = pay on order and phone = pay when shipped?

This is a stupid question I'm sure.
When I get the L-Bracket I will also need a clamp for it. This I am comfortable with. Here is the stupid part. Will I be able to attach the clamp to my 488rc2 ball head without issue. I cannot see how to remove the clamp on it currently.
Thanks everyone. Man, I feel stupid.

Yeah I called up because I wanted to check on the back-order status first, see how long I'd be waiting. I placed an order then. I later (via email) added the monopod tilt head to my order.
I also used a PayPal debit card (but maybe you used PayPal itself). I don't know... You're certain it's not technically just a hold? Companies can place a hold for up to 30 days I think.

paypal debit here too, it wasn't pending, the cash was GONE, but yeah, not a huge deal as it was "real" money, not CC and it's in an account that wasn't earning me anything. For me it's just the principle, but I got it fast enough it doesn't bother me...

read this:

then call them. Your head is listed as taking theB2 LR II or B2-Pro. I'm pretty sure since there's nothing listed after that on that page that means what comes with the clamp and your head works to put it back together. But they know their stuff, so call and ask if you have questions. Their in CA, so check time zones, but yeah, they answer and are helpful. :)
