Dell does charge sales tax for online orders, B&H does not charge sales tax to out of state buyers.

Dell only collects sales tax for some states.

Just put in the Seattle address and see if it shows you a total with sales tax before you actually make the purchase.

The amount of tax and shipping added to your order depends on where you have asked for the product to be shipped as well as on which products you've chosen to purchase. Dell Catalog Sales LP currently collects applicable sales tax in California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin. In other states, the purchaser is responsible for remitting the use tax on all taxable items to the appropriate state tax authorities. Dell does collect sales tax for On-Site Service contracts in all states.

Thnx..

And one last question: here in Canada we have federal and prov sales tax...Im guessing in the states you only have state tax? Or do you have federal tax as well?
Im just trying to figure out which place would be cheaper

In the US, there is no federal sales tax. The exception is a luxury tax on luxury cars and yachts and things like that.

Cameras are not considered luxury items.

So, if I live in California, I can order something from B&H, and they will ship it to me with no sales tax added on.

Some other time we can have a discussion about the possibility of payment of California sales tax by me to Governor Arnold.

I believe (but I could be wrong), in the USA, that the vendor collects sales tax for items shipped to a given state if the vendor has operations in that state. A case in point is Land's End clothing. Prior to being bought by Sears they only charged tax in Wisconsin, where they are based. Now that they have a Land's End department in most Sears stores they charge sales tax for online and phone orders for almost all states.

I guess Dell has operations in all the states listed.

Have Fun,
