Interesting pics! :)
I like the second one, but it looks grainy??? And there seems to be a lil triangle thingy on the floor too which is distracting.
In the first pic the messy bed and dresser kind of don't do it for me. Could retry.

I agree with howaboutnow - seems like a good lesson in taking time when staging pictures. The subject is great but there seem to be too many distractions that let it down.
I do like the lighting lines in the second pic - I would also maybe crop the image just above the girl's reflected head...?

While I quite like the first one, it looks more like a snapshot.
Compare it to the second one - in the first it looks like you saw something, picked up your camera and took the shot. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course - I love sponteneity in a photograph. However, the second one looks like there was more deliberate planning involved. The second photo is less cluttered and there is more emotion in there.
I think both photos could have been improved if you had knelt down to take them. For example, in the first photo try to take it as if you're looking over her shoulder (but make sure you don't get you or your camera in the shot).
The second photo might have looked better if you hadn't have cropped part of her out of the image. I appreciate you were probably working in a confined space - I have this problem all the time, 17mm on a crop isn't as wide as you think sometimes.
I like what you were trying to achieve, I think you just need to tweak things slightly and you'll be onto a winner.

I like the crop of the second on the left, I think I would have cropped into the mirror to match on the right. I like the slightly oppressive feel. I disagree with Jo about the kneeling. I think the power in the images comes from the dominant camera position, if the photograph were taken from a kneeling position the whole vibe of the shot would have been very different. I agree that the first is too snap shotty though.
