So far, I love this thing! It's so nice to be able to get good shots without having to use the pop-up flash (a 430EX II will be my next purchase along with the 55-250mm IS :D). Even bumping up the ISO it was hard to get him to sit still long enough...lol

That's a great lens for low light conditions. I'm sure you'll get some good use out of it.
You're really going to love the 430EX though. Never use the flash straight on, though, always bounce off a ceiling or wall. You'll be amazed at the results!

Fortunately I have plenty of rechargable batteries because I am going to be playing with that flash like crazy to figure out the best way to bounce the light.

Nice pics & yes, I agree with kids its hard to take a sharp image. I have better success with adults/objects :-) & here's a sample of what the nifty can achieve

A speedlite will work great. You bump your flash sync to 1/200 or 1/250, and I've found if I set the ambient light shutter to 1/800 my images came out great. You can check my flickr and look at the kahlua and vodka picture and you can view what I shot at and with what settings. I also found that bouncing the flash off the ceiling or to my right or left was a lot better as well. You don't get any of that flash burn at all and everything looks a lot nicer.

Some great shots there, I have the 50mm lens too, it's great for ambient light inddor etc.
