I can't get my Mac see the camera when I hook up the USB cable.
I can get a PC to see it, not my Mac.
Anyone solve this problem?

My first guess is you want the pics to come into iPhoto. If so you need to set the "Communication" to PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol) the same one all your other cameras will use to drop their files into iPhoto.
Communication is about 5 from the bottom in the camera Menu list on the camera back. Your choice is normal or PTP.
ETA the information on this is not in the manual but it is in the EOS Digital Software manual in the Macintosh section. See the notes on M-8 if you use OSX in "About the PTP Setting"
How do I know? It happened to me and I had to read the manual to find out what was happening.
Mac Powerbook G4 867
OSX 10.2.8

I actually need it to show up on the desktop so that I can access throught photo Mechanic.
I want to shoot and see the shots on my laptop screen.
Do you have a work-a-around for that.

I just tried the PTP setting and that didn't work either.

My best guess is to use a card reader and download to a folder on the desktop, then access them through photo Mechanic. Possibly just using the card reader will make them show up as available files to access through photo Mechanic. Card reader will definitely get them on the desktop.

I just tried the PTP setting ad that didn't work either.
Does photo Mechanic have the ability to browse your files, IOW can you click on open and it shows your drives etc. to select from?

being a mac user, I have opted to use a usb 2.0 card reader. this saves battery life and does not require my 20D to sit on my desk. you might want to change your settings so iPhoto does not handle these types of connections. This might help, but I have not tried to connect my cam to the mac and see if it appears as a disk image.

to Glangston- Yes PhotoMechanic can see my drives, but it can see the camera.
I need the camera to show up on the desktop as a drive.
It does on a PC. I don't have a PC, I used a friends to check it out.

to Dante King - I don't need to download the images, I need to see the CF Card on my desktop so I can access it in Photo Mechanic.
I'm a professional photographer and I want the images to show up on my screen as I shoot so that my clients can see what I'm shooting.

Look in your finder . . . you may have your 'show on desktop' settings turned off. Thus it will show in the finder but not on the desk top. This pref setting is found at Finder>preferences.
I hope that is all that was set different than you thought. Oh, btw this is in OS 10.3 hope this helps.

I did it!!!
The Canon EOS Viewer Utility did it.
Go figure, the software came with the camera.
I wish it would save to to the CF card at the same time it saves to the hard drive.
Thanks to to all that replied.
