Today I went to my friends house after the UPS man dropped off my Nifty Two Fifty and his dad brought up that he had an old SLR. So I ask him to bring him out and it turns out its an old AE-1 with the flash mentioned in the title. I wasn't really thinking about the risks of putting an old flash on a new DSLR so I popped it on and starting takings some pics. When I came home I was a little curious so I started looking around about the old speedlite's and I read that old flashes can mess up new DSLR's. If I screwed my camera would it be noticeable right away? It seems to be functuioning perfectly just like usual but I'm paranoid now.

Old flashes may exceed the 250v tolerance of the electronic cameras that began with the 350XT and 20D...older cameras could tolerate only 6v. The 133 is listed as 6.1v as measured by one owner, so Botzilla chart says 'use at own risk' if you owned a camera not with the 250v limitation. The XT is safe with the 133

Actually I just remembered it was a 166A flash, and after finding the botzilla chart you mentioned it said that it is perfectly fine. Thanks for the help.

I've got a 166A and have used it numerous times with nothing bad happening except overexposure ;)
