Hi all. Do any of you model photographers use a a camera tripod in any of your photoshoots? Is using a tripod in that area of photgraphy the norm, or do photographers mostly hand hold their cameras?

Thanks so much,

If there was a product in the shot I almost always did. Then I could just look past the cam & concentrate on what the model was doing. I didn't generally use one just for a model comp, unless we were trying for a specific pose/effect.

In the studio,
I tend to use a tripod for most of the shoot, but for at least once or twice per session I will come off tripod, switch to my 16-35 and shoot all over the place. This is mainly because My lights are set up and I know I am going to crop it anyway. It lets me ignore the camera and concentrate on the model.

On Location it depends, but I tend to shoot handheld as I get more flexibility that way, but if shooting with longer lenses I tend more often to go with the tripod for stability. I will also use the tripod when it helps me with the shot (such as making sure to keep the camera out of the water if I slip on the rocks).

If doing runway model shoots, I always do that handheld, since a tripod just gets in the way.

Lastly the longer the shoot is/will be the more likely I will use a tripod for part of the shoot, my arm gets tired after a few hours.

Just my Experience,
