Just read this morning that the plans for the new Donnington track layout have been approved...and they look good.
BBC News Story Link!! (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7815447.stm)
Will be interesting to go there when it's all set up/built. Nice to have those plans too, as I can start to plan my spots!!

Trying to get through Jurassic Park style fencing from 6 miles back will be your biggest problem for photography. Modern GP circuits are not designed with the photographer in mind - unless you're trackside with huge lenses that is.

I've seen the detailed layout for the "new" Donington.
The circuit will be almost totally enclosed in FIA Grade 1 fencing which will make shooting from public areas even more of a nightmare than it is already.
Also, there will be NO vehicle access on GP weekend. You'll need to leave the car in one of the nearby towns / cities and get a bus (i kid you not) to the circuit. Unless you're signed on (easier to find a Unicorn eating a Holy Grail) it'll be Mission: Impossible.
Ron Dennis has hit the nail on the head. They have 17 months to raise the finance (haha..anyone seen the news recently?) AND build the circuit to Bernie the Gnome's spec.
I hope i'm wrong but i can honestly see the place not being ready and BCE flogging the race to some Middle-Eastern sand-pit. I won't be surprised if the 2009 British GP is the last for a long time.

I dont plan on being there for the GP as there is no chance of getting a pass, but for GT/F3/BTCC it should be a good circuit if you're on the dangerous side of the fence...I am one of the trackside guys so it's less of an issue, but I can imagine it's a nightmare for anyone trying to get some good shots through the catch fencing.
However, that being said, I dont expect that the finance will be sorted to Bernie's spec as he's been after giving away the old traditional races to far-flung circuits so this whole thing will probably be a moot point.

There will be no Formula 1 British Grand Prix in 2010, that much is certain. In truth, they couldn't really do much to make Donington Park a worse venue for photographers or spectators so it doesn't bother me how much of a muck-up they make of it.

Quite agree with Cadwell if Bernie had wanted to retain a Grand Prix in this country he would have kept Silverstone. Ok it's not the best circuit in the world but could have been brought up to "Bernie spec" a lot quicker than Donnington. Bernie can blame Donnigton if/when there is no GP in the UK rather than take the blame himself or on his bank balance
