I am getting the bug but would like to hear from people who have upgraded from the old Dreb to the 20D about what you feel made it worthwhile. Is the Digic 2 better for flash pictures?

I upgraded a month or so ago - it's better in every way, and it was a great move. It's faster, better at high ISO, I love the dial, and ETTL II does seem a little better than ETTL. You also have a lot more custom functions, and they all work! Unlike, the hacked 300D. I like the strong black body better too :)

Better materials and workmanship; faster and more accurate autofocus; faster frame rate; custom functions (without hacking); ability to choose autofocus mode (AI Servo, etc.) and metering mode (evaluative, etc.) in any setting; instant startup; faster writing to CF card (no waiting for camera to catch up); less image noise at higher ISO settings.
I'm certain there are more ... but these come quickly to mind.

I have both the Rebel and the 20D and I hear to tell you the 20D is the bomb. The feel of it is much more stable. Faster focusing, great layout for the buttons, easy to dial in exposure changes quickly without having to push tons of buttons. Low noise, very low. Tons of cusom features. Man, this camera is what wet dream are made of. I have a friend with a 1 series and it stacks up with it in terms of image quality. I'm in love with it and wont be switching until something comes out that is twice as good for the money. And let me tell you, the 1 series cameras arent worth the extra money for someone who doesnt shoot action for a living or not going to be shooting in a rain storm. I was going to purchase a 1 series camera and upon comparing them for a few days in the field there was no way in H*ll that I was going to fork out over 5 grand for something that had a few more features. To answer your question, the 20D is a Gem!!! The rebel is a fine camera but the 20D is an apple and the rebel is an orange. Because the price is very similiar I would get the 20D If I were you I would save your money are get one. If you are on a budget please dont waste you money on a 1 series. this is for people with extra money, or people who shoot proffesionally and it's an investment. Or, people that have to have the latest best thing even if it puts them in the poor house.. Dont be the ladder, you'll never keep a girlfriend..LOL

i have both as well, and shoot both.
IMO, the main differences are:
-magnesium alloy body
-QCD
-AutoFocus
-selectable metering modes, and the other features.
Speaking in strictly image quality terms, they BOTH deliver excelent results, the 20D has an edge at higher ISO speeds.
