Meet Ezra, one of my good buddies sons.

Taken after the OSU vs OU football game back in september in their front yard with a nice sunset through the pines in the background.

I was laying on my side in the grass. This after a full day of drinking, tailgating, and footballing - I thought - was a damn good result.

CC welcome!

Lovely name, great shot the bokeh certainly adds to the image (especially around the grass, and with the OOF light coming through the leaves (I think?) in the b/g)

Great shot. Cute little guy. Love the bokeh. You did good. The parents should be very pleased with this pic. BTW, how did you have the flash set, and did you use a modifier?

Thanks for the compliments everyone. The expression and head tilt was just about perfect in this one, had about 20 shots in this location. All i had to do was not screw up.

I looked at the EXIF data trying to jog my memory on flash settings. With it being shot a f/1.4 and ISO200, it didn't take much light. As I didn't want it to even look like a flash was used, I'm betting it was manual flash mode at probably 1/32-1/16 - and I definately had a Lumiquest Bouncer on it, with the flash pointed up.

Anyway - not to derail my own topic - but I just discovered two things...

1.) There is a really cool and very detailed web EXIF viewer that you can just paste image URLs into right off the web - its located here (prelinked to Ezra) -> http://regex.info/exif.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jasonfagan.com%2Fsit eAssets%2Fforums%2Fezra1.jpg

2.) I also just realized after saving the image back to my PC and flipping between viewing it with Windows built in Image Viewer vs in IE on this page - how much warmer the image is on my PC locally than in IE... I did some poking around and have learned just now about color profiles / color spaces / color management. The EXIF viewer showed I am saving in AdobeRGB and it looks like i should be using sRGB I think to make images look right in IE? I need to do some more reading - I really had no idea about the difference between local vs in IE which is how probably 90% of people view it... Off to google. Anyone care to comment on that feel free.

Ok for us IE users - this is what is supposed to look like!

A-ha! IE is not color managed so it cools off images. However if you use photoshops 'save for the web and devices, then pick 'optimized', it makes the color under IE look much closer to what i see in photoshop. Excellent. Only downer is it looks like it strips the EXIF data 100%. -> http://regex.info/exif.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.jasonfagan.com%2Fsit eAssets%2Fforums%2Fezra3.jpg

Look at the difference - AdobeRGB on the left (looks crappy under IE) vs save for the web / optimized - sRGB on the right (now in IE it looks much more like what i edited in PS)

Wow I've learned a lot this morning... Hopefully this is news to someone else too!

I am curious christyjo - what browser are you using...? I'd lay odds on something color managed like Firefox 3 etc.

My reasoning is that since you thought the colors were vibrant on the first edit - even thought the first image is a little cold and the red shirt a little dull to us IE users - maybe your brower was actually seeing the color profile and you were getting to see what us IE users can now only see in the second edit... :?:

Perhaps I've had too much coffee this morning... :)

Here is the best way to get your images to look right under IE when you post them - based on my research this morning and in my opinion...

In photoshop, pick edit -> convert to profile -> then sRGB IEC61.....

Then you can use the regular 'save as' dialog and your final image will not only look right in IE, all the EXIF data will be intact!
