I have used this flash unit with Canon XTi and Canon XSi cameras. It works fine and gives decent results. It will even fire a Canon430ex set to the slave setting.
When used with a Canon 50D camera set in live view mode the flash sync speed most times flashes on and off between 250sync speed and the ambient light Fstop setting required for the shot. Sometimes the flash fires and other times it does'nt, but never fires the Canon slave unit. Checking the camera manual it states to have live view setting of "Quiet Mode" set to disable (which I have tried) and not set at Mode 1 or Mode 2. The manual also states that flash units putting out 250v and above should not be used. The flash manual does not state the voltage of the flash unit. No luck with the internet either in determining the voltage. I hope that I have been clear with my description of this problem.
If anybody can shed any light on this problem for me I would really appreciate it.

I have a similar problem. My Sigma ring works fine in ETTL mode on my Canon 350D, giving perfect exposures. But on my Canon 50d I just get a total white-out.

Sounds like this is possibly the same flash firmware issue that has been plaguing other users of the most recent Canon DSLR cameras and Sigma 530 flash units.

I strongly suggest a call to Sigma for the straight scoop.

Enjoy! Lon

I returned my Sigma ringflash to Sigma today after a call to them in the UK. Ring-flashes under a certain serial number will not function properly eith the Canon 50D, and possibly some other new cameras. They have agreed to re-chip the flash FOC, but I have to pay transit both ways. They do know about this problem.
