I was on vacation a few months ago with my family and noticed that all of us (the family) were in one location at one time. So I suggested we get together for a family photo in the next couple days. This is the second time in five years we have all been together. Unfortunately for me, someone had to leave early, which meant the photo was to be taken at 2pm in the glaring sun that day. I walked around the property we were at and found a location that I thought would be a nice backdrop. I had planned for a morning photo with the bay and cliffs behind us.

I had only brought my camera with my 28-135IS on it since I did not plan to do much photography (a mistake that I have learned from). No tripod and my good glass was sitting at home. Lucky for me, we had a family friend vacationing with us, so he was able to snap a few dozen photos for us. Out of over 40 photos, not one had everyone looking near the camera or with their eyes open. I had to photoshop three faces from the other photos onto the final for a decent image. The end result was okay, but not what I would have preferred. I am the tall tan one in the middle and my father is next to me and he always has a very red face.

The other night I was over at my father's house and noticed he had a 20x30 canvas print of the photo laying on his kitchen counter. My father and his wife loved the photo so much they blew it up to frame and hang on thier wall for everyone to see. I am ecstatic that they love the photo so much, but a bit sad that the photo was not up to the quality I normally prefer. The colors just seem a bit off no matter what I do.

I thought I would share my enjoyment with everyone.

The most important part of many photos is the memory they contain. Sounds like that photo had some pretty special meaning for your dad....regardless of quality. Enjoy the limelight. ;)

+1

No one said that picture had to be perfect to be worth a thousand words

Rev. Dr. Jay, Only GOD can make something perfect the rest of us just keep plugging away as best we can. Take pride in the fact that you have the shots to view as you get older and some family members leave for awhile.

Good on ya mate!!

I'm always surprised at how great photos can look on canvas. Makes me smile when I see these sorts of photos going through the shop :)
