Has anyone ever tried calling up B&H when doing a large order, to get a deal? Have they given you one?

Im gonna be putting a very large order through with a friend very soon, and just want to hear some others xp with issues like this.
Do they even budge?

By large order, do you mean $25,000 or more?

B&H isn't exactly a neighborhood camera shop.

They may throw in a few UV filters, and maybe a battery or two. What kind of deal are you expecting?

Batteries from http://sterlingtek.com are every bit as good as Canon batteries, or better, in my experience, and only cost $12 for an 1800mah battery, so don't aim to get them. Polarizers are good.

Hmm...Im thinking to aim for 2 Hoya 77mm Circular Polarizers SMC: one for me, and one for my friend...if they are easy, maybe they will throw in a battery grip or 2 as well ;);)

thats all stuff with a huge profit margin anyways, hey?
I dont think they would mind throwing it in...what are your thoughts?

That's like your boss saying "Your time is a huge profit margin area for you, isn't it? I'm sure you won't mind working a few extra hours this weekend for free, just so you can keep your job."

It's worth asking, just don't make your sale dependent on their saying yes.

I recently purchased $4500 worth of Canon Equipment. I subscribe to a few photo magazines (Shutter Bug, Pop Photo..) and went through every advertised page to make a spreadsheet of their website cost. Then I made phone calls to verify cost and started my negotiating skills. This took a couple weeks. Everyone of the NYC shops were very rude and impatient with me. They asked me why I'd "blow money on the Canon 20D when the rebel would do the same work." The rep at Camera City Inc, yelled at me and wished that I got gauneria and died. The guy was so rude I lost control. My wife heard the conversation, walked into my office and asked if the call was for real, or was someone playing a joke. I will never buy from the NYC shops. I called Samy's photo in California, and received polite service. I feel I saved $1000 total because I did not have to pay sales tax, and they gave extra saving on the 20D kit, 70-200 lens, 580 EX flash, filters and 1 gig extreme III cards, compared to the local photo stores here in Denver. They advertise the 70-200 IS USM for around $1650 where all other are at $1999. I think they would work with your $13.000 budget.

There are many normal business people in the New York City area. However, there are also many people there who are used to doing business in only their New York City way, and if they sense that a non-New York City person is present, sometimes they get rude, especially if they think somebody is just going to waste their time.

For that reason, I make nearly all of my gear purchases on-line. There isn't any conversation or chance for rudeness. It is strictly business with no emotions in it.

i've spoken with B&H before, and they were extremely nice to me.

Back to the original question, I doubt you'll get a lot of stuff for free.

When I bought by first DSLR, my rebel, there was a Canon rep over there and I got a lot of free stuff (I bought it locally from Calumet). Most importantly, a camera bag :D

I've dealt with both B&H and Adorama in NY both in person and over the phone and i've experienced a good relationship with both. The key is get a good sales person and stick to them throughout your relationship with that store. I have recently made a switch to almost exclusively Adorama... they bought my whole lot of film cameras, lens and some flash equipment recently and gave me a great trade on some digital stuff, a coupld lenses and few other things. Worked out well.

Ditto.,....

I actually just set up a business account with Adorama, theyve been beating B+H as of late (although Im a bit suspicious if they are one in the same company with 2 locations)...

Very pleased with both however.......Theyre both head/shoulders above the other before mentioned mom/pop NYC camera stores.....

Roger that. I stopped in a corner store to check out the 28-135, and the salesman and I ended up yellling at each other- him trying to sell me what HE wanted to sell me, me looking for what I wanted. The next day at B&H was like nirvana.

I don't see how those criminal like, bad mannered, amateur sale people can sell anything. They have NO integrity. I'm disturbed that the photo magazines I subscribe to even accept them as customer to advertise. These companies waste their money on advertising to have someone visit or call, and get bad treatment like they give at Camera City Inc.
