HI!
What experiences do you have of these thee lenses? They are almost priced the same, so which one to buy?
Canon 24-85 / 3,5-4,5 USM
Sigma EX 24-70 / 2,8 DF
Sigma EX 28-70 / 2,8 DF
Canon has the USM, Sigma don't. How big is that difference? Does the non ultra sonic motor "sound" a lot?
The Sigmas are faster. Are they faster in autofocus too? Do they compare in quality (built and picture)?

OK......i'll be the first to get this argument going...........the 24-85 is a great lens for the D60.........good color and contrast which is comparable to the 28-70L, but not as sharp at largest apertures.
stopped down to f/7-11 and using a tripod will give you results that will leave you with a big grin for the price.
don't know about the other off brands you mentioned as i only buy Canon lenses.

I bought the 24-84 F3.5-4.5 when I bought my D60 (I didn't have any lenses before I bought the camera). It is cheap, and gives you a good range of focal lengths, but I'd have to say that I'm not too happy with the optical quality. A lot of the pictures that I've taken with it look slightly fuzzy, although sometimes they're quite sharp. I think it's OK (not great) in bright conditions where you don't need to use a wide aperture, but gives poor results if you need to use it at close to its maximum aperture. I think its small maximum aperture also hinders the autofocus system in low light.
I've since bought a 50mm F1.4 USM and a 20mm F2.8 USM, both of which give much sharper images, especially the 50mm. Maybe I'm just too fussy...

Hi sniper,
When I bought my D30, I bought a Canon 24-85 / 3,5-4,5 USM lens. I was pleased with it at the beginning. but after a short period of time I saw pics of sigma 24-70 f/2.8 and I really prefered its results. So I bought one and I'm still using it. The porblem with the sigma lens is the noise! It's not USM (nor HSM as sigma says) but I don't care due to the good result it offers ;-)
If I had a little bit more money, I'd go for a Canon 24-70 f:2.8L. :-)

I owned the 24-84 for years, and it stinks- not sharp, low contrast. Canon makes a host of much better lenses, notably the 28-135 IS, which for the extra 200 dollars beats the 24-85 hands down. If you want more wide angle, the 20-35 USM is an excellent lens, very sharp w/excellent optics. I'd stay away from 24-85 in any case.

not sharp and "low contrast" eh?
you are so wrong pal.......read this and look at the results if you dare;

and at least be honest about the 28-135 and tell us why so many who own this lens have such a problem with it underexposing. it is also only 100.00 dollars more than the 24-85, and that's because they incorporated the "IS" system into the 28-135.
must have saved some money somewhere i guess, cause most lenses that are in the same size range cost a lot more with "IS".
