I have been told I should have lost the building but I kinda like it there, what do you think?

yes... my reasoning is.. is that there isnt enough of the building in the photo to add to the photo.
so a good crop, and some cloning would be nice so you dont have to lose soooo much of the photo in crop..
beautiful image though, thank you for posting it.

I agree with Shannon. I think the building is distracting to the rest of the pic.

I think so too... removing the building will enhance the peaceful/serene kind of effect that it already has.

It may have looked good with more of the building in the picture .. however there is not enough of it so I would srop it out if I were you as previous posts mention it will be a nice, relaxing scene.. :)

Should you lose the building, not sure here.
To think someone has that view from their window, is pretty cool.
I wouldn't have got that feeling without the building in the shot, otherwise it would have been just another great shot of a lake and mountains.

I saw you had on "Editing OK", so I took a stab at a recrop. Here's a version w/out the house, and brought the sky down a little as well. I'm not a crop guru, but thought it looked nice though.
Hope you like it, and great photo you have also!

See what I mean, and not that great of a crop, sorry.

No reason to be sorry...I'm still learning as I go as well. So the critique helps!
Here's another shot with leaving the bldg in, but I still think some of the sky had to be left off...thoughts?

Can you try cropping the left side out of the shot, and leaving a reason for the light, IE, the moon.
This may look good, then again, It may not.
It's all trial and error, let's see.

I like the edited version. Not having the entire building distracts from the beautiful view. My attention goes atuomatically to the building which I don't think is the intended sujbect. Just my opinion.

Great opinion, but the house exists in this scene, It's not normal to have a house looking out at at something so beautiful, but sometimes, we need to acknowledge that there are the lucky few who have this view.
So why not fire your imagination,

Keep the building, it's unique and adds to the composition. It leans into it, and thus the viewer leans in more too. I like it there, Keep it. Without it it's just another shot of a lake and some islands.
What you should lose is that sign thing (or bouy?) in the right hand side of the lake towards the beach.

Thanks for your comments, this one is obviously somewhat objective. I like the building, it is a boathouse, seemed to me to add a sort of ghostly effect, and I like the hazy moon showing, the light source I guess, showing what sort of evening it was. Also the non cropped sky gives one a better feeling of being in the pic? MY first pp was in DPP, this one is in Photoshop, I cloned the building out, you may see some 'ghosting' there, and the sign further up the harbour in the moonlit path. Biggest headache was, I can not match the colours when converting to 'for the web', the original tif works fine, but when I convert....arrrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhh I am pulling my hair out

So do ya reckon this is better?, to me it takes some character out. By the way, it is Picton Harbour, in the Marlborough Sounds, South Island NZ

To me, no, good to lose the buoy, but it needs the building for impact, man intruding on nature.

I agree superstes, looks a bit bland and ordinary now :(

Yes, it is distracting.

I don't care for any of the crops as loosing the width and height take away from the original image.
The cloning appeared a little too visible, perhaps you could darken the boat house to make it less prominent and enhance the feeling of evening/ night.

If I had a choice, I'd vote to leave the house in the picture. In all honesty, the house doesn't add much because there's not much of it showing ... but the photo lacks much more without it. Kinda like the lesser of the two evils.
I say, chalk this one up as a learning experience to shoot more of the house next time. lol.
