So a couple of days ago I received my 40D and I couldnt wait for this weekend to take some action shots.
A friend asked if I could take a few pictures of their kid playing soccer this weekend...Perfect I thought !

Here is a few shots from today:

oh, I forgot to mention these shots were taken with my XT
I got to the field this morning and I pull my 40D out of my camera bag, click on the shutter-button, nothing, it doesnt respond. Click on the button again, nothing....mmm, I must of turned the swith off...checked, nope the power switch is on.
Im thinking, maybe I installed the battery backward  but I dont think its possible; anyways I better check....to my surprise the battery compartment....was empty!

When I charged the battery last nite I had the bag on the floor so I placed the battery on top of the bag. This morning I picked-up the bag and the battery fell on the carpet.

I still cant believe I did that but I was glad I had a back-up camera.

Have you guys had anything like this happen to you ?
Maybe an important event and you forgot something....or is this a total rookie mistake.

Mike.

ahh, now if only the Rebel XT and the 40D used the same battery.......

Seriously, good thing you had it with you, and the best part is I'm willing to bet you'll never pack up your camera without checking that from now on.!!

We've all done something boneheaded -- like getting out into the field for a day of shooting... with a single 32Mb card.

Just the other day I took several pics of my son getting a haircut, then taking a bath before I finally noticed the "No Card" message that kept popping up on the LCD...GRRRR. Quickly turned "Shoot without card" to NO after that one.

reminds me of a whole roll of film i shot once at this fantastic nature/wildlife park... it was only the next day when the 36exp roll got to about 50 frames that i started to really worry

stupid film wasnt wound on.

I was so excited last weekend at the Eagles-Vikings playoff game (as a fan 2nd row sideline seats, 40 yard line, Eagles bench) that I shot the entire pre-game in one-shot AF. I never use one-shot, I always use the * button and AI Servo. Couldn't figure out why my shots all looked OOF on my LCD.

I switched over to AI Servo and shot a bunch of good frames, until the end of the 1st quarter. I looked down and saw that my camera (in M) was set to 1/8000s shutter speed. I must have been fiddling with the dial while watching the game, I have nervous habits. :( I took about 50-60 frames like that. Luckily there was only about 4-5 shots in that group that I really wish I could have back. One of them would have been really good, oh well.

Still had a great time at the game. Photographing it was my secondary purpose.
