I love taking night shots. And NYC is finally getting a bit warmer at night to shoot comfortably. Here are some attempts of the Empire State Bldg - the color is GREEN in celebration of St. Patricks Day.

Both are with the XT with the 17-40 f4 L at f9 with an 8 sec exposure. ISO 100.

Which is better??

I definitely like the composition better in the first photograph, however, the second photograph gives me a better sense of how busy it was that night. On the other hand, the bus/truck that is passing on the right hand side in the second photograph is too distracting and takes away from the rest of the picture. Overall, nice shots.

Composition is stronger in the first image, the leading lines bring the eye to the building.

THanks guys.......

I kinda think number 2 has a bit more going to it.......with the lights and all........but it does look lopsided.

Very nice! I particularly like #1 too, it draws you into it. I like symmetry. I've got to get out at night. I've got to get off this forum and shoot some pictures. Lots of inspiration here.

I love new york shots. I hope to get some night photography done also this summer. It won't be easy though as there will be tons of people out.

Now is the best time.......not too cold, not too hot, with not a lot of people out.
