i am sure this topic has been covered before but i am new to this board. i just purchased the EF70-300 DO IS USM canon lens. it arrived on tuesday in a very damaged box from b&h. the contents were not damaged as far as i can tell. i used the lens yesterday and all seems well.
my husband is dead set against getting extended warranties. i am thinking maybe i should get one on this lens. i don't buy many lenses and certainly nothing this expensive. most of you are so much more experienced than i am in photogrpahy. what can go wrong with a lens and are the warranties worth purchasing? the warranty on this lens is not expensive. i have gotten several other USM canon lens. some i have used since the early ninties and have never had a problem. canon's warranty is good for one year. hubby thinks that anything that could go wrong will go wrong during this time period.

In Denmark I don't buy the extended warranties on individual items. I don't think they are worth it. The one time I got one nothing happened with the item.

But now since I got a substantial value invested in my camera equipment I am in the process of signing an all risk insurrance with my insurrance company. This insurrance covers everything. I think the premium is about 4% a year of the value.

The best thing to do is start SELLING extended warranties, or buy stock in a company that does..

You'll make a LOT of money and be able to afford any repairs you may need in the future. I agree with your hubby :) :)

FWIW, if you have ANY concerns about the lens being damaged, I'd check with B&H about sending it back...
