Is it possible to create new folders from the menu with the 20D?

Like if I go to an event and shoot 50 pictures in one room and than create another folder for another room is that possible. So I can switch back and forth, whenI change rooms.

I already know about the 100 images in each folder setup.

Is there a trick or a hack for this?

It seems to me that Canon really cut short the development of the file folders and menu options, when so manyP&S cameras have these easy and useful features.

I love the 20D, but a few things could be improved

No, you can't change the way the camera saves information to the flash card.

The camera firmware is hard coded to create the image numbers and folders in a specific way. I have no idea why :)

I don't think any digital cameras have the option to change the way they save images.

Well, that just goes to show that a 1D series camera is not just any digital camera because it does allow you to create as many folders as you wish and select any one of those folders for a particular photo shoot so that the pictures can be segregated by sessions. :D

I would be interested in seeing that added to the next firmware update if possible.

Does anyone know about how to give suggestions the the Canon developers for future firmware updates.

Also, my previous digital camera the Sony 717 folder structure was capable of this, and I go got used to it and found it quite handy.

Each time you remove the CF card and turn the camera off/on a new session folder is created on the card. ;)

IMO the canon (10d/20d/300d etc) file folder numbering format is absolutly WORTHLESS!!!

No. You'll get a new folder created on a particular card only if

The previous folder was filled or
The card is blank when inserted into the camera.
If you set file numbering to "Reset", inserting a new card will start the counter over at 100-0001 each time, but again, that's only with an empty card.

Simple. Use a separate card for each room.

IMO canon should make a change in this

This is not true.

I can shoot twenty shots in one folder, remove the CF card, replace the CF card, and I will be shooting in the same folder until the folder has had a hundred shots. Then it creates a new folder.

Had a funny with my EOS20 today... a folder went "missing". Folder 109 was there, then folder 110, but no folder 100. No pics were missing.

Anyone know if this is normal or why it happened please?

Sounds normal to me 100 would have been before 109....

Get DIM from http://alanlight.com and you won't have to worry about folders ever again. It downloads files to your PC based on date, using a file browser it's trivial to make subfolders as you like.
