I shot my friends' local hardcore band at a local place last night. It was my first time shooting anything like this so there's nothing that I'm too terribly pleased with. I shot these with a 40D, 18-55MM, ISO 640, and a 430EX bounced off of the ceiling. Also, ignore the tacky watermark, haha.

Cool effect. I like the third one the best.

Looks pretty good for the 1st attempt.
#4 if def my favorite
If they are your friends, you may want to ask them if they are alright with you aiming the flash directly at them...
And then possibly invest in an off-shoe ettl cord for your flash. :)

I did a few with the flash pointed directly at them and I wasn't really as pleased with the results, they ended up looking like everyone else there who were shooting's photos.
What's the benefit of an off-shoe ettl cord? I'm pretty much brand new to all of the speedlite stuff as I'm borrowing the flash from a friend who still hasn't found a use for it.

It takes practice.
Most of my stuff is taken with the flash directly at the subject, or with ambient light...
Bouncy flash dosent do well with hardcore bands...
When you aimed the flash at the band, what ISO, shutter speed, and aperture did you have set?
as for the offshoe cord, it helps with just the lighting and everything...
here are two shots that I got on Friday, with the flash at the subject and off the camera...

ISO and aperture were 3.5 the whole time, shutter speed ranged from 1/5 to 1/25, I tried a couple of different angles towards exposure and I just wasn't as happy with them. I'm on my laptop right now so I don't have any of the EXIF data until later on today. The band also wanted light trails and things like that so I was trying to go for those (in other words, I was completely winging it--LOL).
By the way, I checked out your site and everything was really great, really good layout and shots and whatnot. On some of the promo shots, did you have a flash on a stand behind the band?

Usually for light trail stuff, shoot with really slow shutter speeds, ISO at 100, and the aperture at 5.6 with the kit 18-55 lens.
Then switch the AF over to AF Servo...
For the promos I have now, I have just been shooting with continuous lights, but yes, i did have one behind them
