Ok I decided to bring my 85L F1.2 II to shoot some of the game. So the first three shots are with that lens at F2.2.

Llooks like you nailed the focus on the first three, probably could have shot at 1.2 ;). Was the lens able to keep up with the action, or were these the only three that were in focus?

The lens did quite well. Better than I expected to be honest. It wasn't a 85 1.8 but still did quite well.

I use the 85 1.2 for sports all the time, people complain about the focus speed for sports but I get more than enough keepers from it for me to continue using it. In bad light I usually shoot at 1.8, 2.0 or 2.2 if the light is better.

Bill,
Yeah without a doubt I think I am going to use it more. The colors and contrast is superb with this lens.

Matt, Nice shots as usual.
The stands look virtually empty. Do they still check credentialls to get on the floor?

Very nice shots. The first is my favorite by far.

When you're as good as Matt, you don't need credentials anymore. His body guards clear a path for him. :)

lol yeah they are still pretty good at looking for them. They have people at each entrance to the court that check that stuff.
Yeah I am a bit surprised that more people do not come to watch the games.

Chuck Norris doesn't wear condoms, because there is no protection from Chuch Norris.

looks like the lens did very well Matt. Actually, I guess you did very well and the lens let you do your thing. Talk about a contrasty shooting situation...well handled bud. You might tone down a few of the whites and faces a touch, seem slightly hot but there night not be much you can do.

Scott,
It seems no matter what I do it just happens like that with the skin and faces on certain parts of the court. There are really bright 'white' lights in certain part that make the ladies skin crappy looking. I mean even on the black athletes they will turn white because of it. Frustrating but you take what you can get.
It is the way the lights are setup. This image should give you an idea of why the lights are so harsh:

The lights are coming straight down on the players. So when they look up their face is blasted with lights.

whoa! that's the funkiest lighting I have ever seen. Between contrasty skin tones, contrasty unis and THAT, that, that lighting....man, you did even better than I initally thought.

Looks like a darned spaceship is landing. I have never seen anything like that.
Nice shots, especially with the 85 1.2. I have really been wanting to add that lens for wedding work.
