Is there going to be another Canon rebate program soon?
The last one ended on Jan 31st, right? Can we expect another one to occur shortly? ;)

sure - and chickens will fall from the sky
its too hard to speculate - which is why i dont. considering that there are still a good number of unsold drebels out there that are now heavily discounted, i would lean towards no rebates for a while

It will probably take them the better part of the year just to clean up the mess they've made with this one and get everyone paid!!

Do not. I repeat do not participate in any of Canons rebate programs unless you enjoy getting bent over.
I just got a call from my credit union saying the two checks that were delivered to me overnight via DHL from Canon had stop payments on them.  I've been charged a $20 fee by my credit union and am now out $110!!! Needless to say I've gone way beyond upset! If I didn't have as much money invested in my Canon DSLR system I would never buy another damn thing from Canon again.   As far as I can tell this is a new low in customer "service" It took me over 10 months just to get the checks now I'm out $20 more than when I started this whole thing. To make things worse. I tried calling the representative that I've been talking to and she is on vacation. When I asked if there was anyone else I could talk to I was told all the rebate personel had gone home.
So go ahead participate at your own risk!

Sorry to hear about that :(
Too bad, from the last rebate program, my part of the order I am putting in alone right now (or in the near future) would have saved me 450$ US in rebates

While I got my rebate, I felt it was a struggle. I'm supposed to be getting a Lexar rebate soon. The check was mailed one week ago. I called to see if perhaps I should have received it by now and was told that no, it is 3rd class bulk mail (probably the size of a postcard and flimsier) so it takes longer.
Chris, how did it happen that they stopped payment or is this just another hoop to jump through?...
No more rebates for me. Begging for your own money back seems crazy.

Thankfully, I haven't had problems thus far.
Looking at history, they had new rebate programs the last two years starting in April, if memory serves correct.

I'm not sure what is going on now. I wont be able to get hold of anybody until Monday. The rebate center claimed to have sent me my rebate check on 5 different occasions. I never received one. I would call and tell them I have yet to receive my rebate. They would say okay we'll cancel the rebate checks we sent and issue new ones. This went on for about 4 months. Finally the Canon rebate representative said we will have to try something different. So she decided to send them to me overnight via DHL. Well, I received the checks the following day. I emailed the representative to thank her and told her the checks were here. She called me the next day to verify that I had received the checks. I told her yes, and thanked her once again for helping take care of this. All was fine and dandy until today when I received the call from my credit union informing me that Canon had stopped payment on the checks and that I was being dinged $10 a piece for it. So yeah I guess Im just some kind of circus lion jumping through flaming hoops. I'll let you all know how this turns out come Monday.

Sending a rebate check and stopping it would require one darn good reason. Turn the checks over to the local authorities and file bad check charges. List the overages as part of the loss and be sure to include any other damages from the bounced checks. Make several copies of everything and have it signed by a notary public.
Then write letters with copies of the checks to the state attorney general, CCing the BBB, whoever sold you the stuff, and the FBI (they have a fraud division). Writing bad checks across state lines is a federal offense. Canceling a check received in good faith is the same as writing a check knowing there are no funds to cover it. That is illegal.
Nasty phone calls will not be responded to, but if you put their lawyers to work, they will settle. Also, the state Attorney General does not like it when big corporations pull scams on innocent citizens who vote.
Be sure and run your letter through spell check and even grammar check. You want to sound as together as possible. And don't be afraid to do all the above - unless you are the actual guilty party, of course.

Recently, Canon has been doing 2 rebates per year in the USA - one through the summer, and one through the end of the year. No way to guarantee that it will continue that way, but if you are thinking about buying near the end of April it might pay to wait a little while longer.
I would have sworn that the last rebate was geared around clearing out inventories on selected lenses in anticipation of new or upgraded versions, but it has not happened yet. The latest rumor has the new lenses coming out during the summer, but who knows.
So hang in there . . .
Have Fun,
