Hi everyone

My first post to this list.

I know Canon recommend that IS is turned off when using a tripod but does anyone know what is recommended with a monopod?

I'm hoping to take some rugby pictures tommorrow using a monopod with my new EF28-300IS L (just got it today) and would appreciate any advice.

Thanks in anticipation.

Since the monopod is not as stable as the tripod you should have IS on when using the monopod. Just make sure the lens is on IS Mode 2 if you plan to do any panning.

BTW, welcome to the forum! :)

Some image stabilized lenses will work with IS turned on while mounted on a tripod.. I think all the newer ones do.

Check the booklet that came with your lens.. If there is no reference to turning off IS when shooting on a tripod, don't worry about it..

If you have a lens that won't work with IS active on a tripod, you'll soon know :) The image will slowly creep all over the place.. I won't cause any damage..
