Been asked to travel 2 hours away to shoot a wedding. How much would you charge for something like this? How do you decide how much to charge someone for travel?

I charge a standard rate of $1/km after the first 50km, which covers fuel, wear and tear on the vehicle, and my time. That would translate to US$1.50/mile (I think). I haven't had to fly anywhere yet, but that'd be priced at cost + rental car + expenses + compensation for the extra time it takes.

i have something similar to Tim, $.75/mile after the first 25 miles. i had to fly to vancouver last year and the couple paid for the flight, meals, and accomodations.

You might just want to figure what your time is worth, or maybe figure a shop rate for that. Another approach is to figure how much are you charging for the wedding and how much time you will spend on it, than add 2 more hours plus maybe vehicle expense (I think the tax deduction is something like $60/mile). This way you figured you time and mileage.

I'm also similar to Tim.. I price each wedding as it comes and agree usually on a flat rate with them.
We've had a couple of weddings outside of town where I've asked that they pay for airfares, accomm etc and its been no problem. I usually only ask for accommodation if I'm travelling more than 2 hours out of town.. anything less and I'm ok with driving out and back in a day.

I charge $0.50 per mile one-way if the travel exceeds about 25 miles.

.50/mile with the first 30 free of charge. I don't charge for driving to a consultation if it is within reason driving distance wise.

I don't go to potential customers, they come to me. It's a mental thing - one way seems like begging for work, the other seems like offering a service. I occasionally go to meet customers before their wedding after they've booked, but still people usually come to me.

I wish it was that way for me. I'm still trying to grow my client base.
