Ok everyone, the time has come. We're finally getting our P.O.T.N. Op-Tech Pro Loop straps!!!! :D
The members have voted for the logo to appear on the strap, and we are now taking orders. Here's the final logo that was selected in the poll:
http://www.casciola.com/potn/potnSmall.jpg
Nice and simple and matches the forum logo, and a little work with a red sharpie will give you the red Canon and line which we could not get because of the single color silkscreen limitation.
Here are the straps which are being custom made for us by Op/Tech. We are getting the Pro Loop model, now available in four colors as shown below:
http://www.casciola.com/pics/straps2.jpg
Click here for the full manufacturer specs (http://www.optechusa.com/product/detail/?PRODUCT_ID=23&PRODUCT_SUB_ID=&CATEGORY_ID=4)
Just for all to see, this is the final final version of the logo (in inverse color) which will be used by Op-Tech. It has a slightly stronger middle line so that in red color the line would show better: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/POTN_logo_PDF.pdf
The cost is $22 per strap for the U.S. and Canada and $27 per strap for all other countries. Shipping is included in both prices.
B&H charges $20 a piece for these straps without shipping, and international shipping is very expensive from them, so we are actually getting them cheaper than with the plain old Op-Tech logo on them.
The page I put up uses Paypal for all the payments, but this does not mean you have to set up a Paypal account to buy one. If you do not have a Paypal account and do not wish to open one at this time, just start your checkout process as normal and look for where it says:
http://www.casciola.com/potn/paypal.gif
This will enable you to pay by credit card rather than using a Paypal transfer. Either way, please make sure you have the correct shipping information in there at checkout time since the mailing labels will automatically printed through Paypal for most of the orders.
Thanks to Ian, Sheldon, Conk and Pekka for all the hard work they did putting this together.

Yeah, it's fun to order at this shop. So bad there's only one item in one size and one color...
I would have spent much more than my 50 bucks, clicked on "continue shopping", but then realized I'd have no use of two dozens of those straps. Two are enough.
So, great, now we just have to be patient (hope that Phil will not fly away to Aruba with our cash!)

Hey guys, many thanks. To Sheldon for taking over my part since work is starting to catch up to me. To Phil, the hard part is yet to come:) Hope you like lickin enveloped:) To conk for the design. To Pekka for giving us a place to be able to even do something like this. and of course to everyone that is buying the strap. I'll be looking for "The Strap" everywhere I go:)

There has been some discussion about different printing, different color straps, etc. But if we go with this to get our feet wet, maybe we can go for a different option next time around. In fact, it might make for some exclusivity - each one is a limited edition, not to be repeated, so get it now.
My 2 cents - for my 2 straps.
Have Fun,

Hey, I just noticed that this order page is in the EOS forum, and while the Pro strap is best on heavier cameras, shouldn't we have a tickler for the 'G' folks?
Another 2 cents.

SWEET!!
I just pulled $20 bucks out of my "20D savings" to buy one of these straps! I figured since there is a 'limited time only' stamp on them I better get one now! Then I'll be able to throw it on right when I get my camera!!

Also, how big is the logo? Bigger than the Optec label?Sorry if that was misleading. I meant the one on the right because that's the Pro Loop, and the picture shows both the Pro and the Pro Loop. That was the best picture I could find of the Pro Loop. I'll reword the original post to be a little more clear on that.
Op-Tech is only equipped for a single color silkscreen of 5.25" x .75", so about the same size as the Op-Tech logo in the picture from the looks of it.

I've never had it happen. In fact, I really can't conceive of a situation where it would because you have to squeeze both sides of the clips to make them disengage. I don't think you could ever do that by accident.
Opinion only.

This is great, I was wondering if it was ever going to go anywhere from the original thread, and I'm glad to see that it is! I'm ordering mine right now.
I've only got a single 20D at the moment, so I only need one... maybe if I ever get a backup camera later down the road, we'll have a new edition strap or something :)
Also, I wish they wouldn't mind taking the extra effort to print 2 colors so we could have the red on there... wonder if my dad would have been able to print them had it been an option to order blank straps and get them printed elsewhere.
Oh well, it's great either way!

When can we expect to receive them?We are having a 2 week ordering period, and Op/Tech's turnaround time for a custom strap order is about 2 weeks. So, I suspect the straps should start arriving in people's mailboxes in 5-6 weeks from today, maybe less if we can have Op-Tech ready to roll on the day we plan on ending the online ordering.

Did the donation thing but must wait for payday for the ordering. Also I would like to say that everyone has been so kind with thanking a few of us involved in the design and organization of the strap. Thanks very much. That is all about being part of the forum. It is my pleasure to help out and I'm sure that goes for the rest of us who made it happen. There were many of us who took part who's names were not mentioned. Meaning all those who posted and were involved in the polls. If it weren't for those people, none of this would have happened. This was purely a POTN members effort and none of us should be singled out. Thanks to everyone. :D

This will be my first "non-kit" strap as well. Will it really make that much of a difference?? Plus I see there's some kind of 'hand strap' that ties to your hand instead of a long loop around your neck?!? Seems handy. Any of you guys/girls use those?
I would hazard a guess that most people using a 1-series body use the hand strap. Also, I believe a lot of people using battery grips on the various smaller SLRs also use the hand strap. It just makes handling the camera a lot easier, especially when you are trying to use the thumb wheels while zooming or focusing with your other hand.

yea I thought about hand straps as well, but when you carry more than one body in the same time, I don't know how confortable it would be carrying/switching both cameras. I usually have one camera on one shoulder, and the other around my neck or on the other shoulder (I can switch them real quick)

For anyone not familiar with the Canon Hand Strap, you should be aware that it has an extra loop on it to attach the neck strap to, so you can have both.

But these Op-tech straps ae an absolute must. Yes,. the difference is HUGE!

cool, I wasn't aware that the straps we'll be getting have a hand strap as well. I've often wondered if one would do me any good, since the only thing I ever use my neck strap for is to throw the camera over my shoulder... yes, I'm using the included strap with my 20D, and I really like it, actually. The rubber underside is great for making sure it doesn't slip off my shoulder, and since I never put it around my neck, the uncomfortableness (is that a word?) of it isn't an issue... for now, at least

cool, I wasn't aware that the straps we'll be getting have a hand strap as well. It doesn't. I think people are just saying the strap we are getting can still be used in conjunction with the hand strap, because the Canon hand strap provides and extra slot on the buckle so both can be used.

First, thanks for the info belmondo!
Second, should I venture out and pick up an Op-tech "hand strap" to go with my new POTN strap?!? Or will any of them do??

I really can't believe how many have been ordered. Moday at 3:00 PM - 188.
If you had asked me weeks ago I would have guessed 40, maybe 50 total.

I am working with Op Tech and have supplied with camera ready artwork. To be honest we didn't expect the response we did so I will be talking to them tomorrow so see how their supply is.
We are trying to get this done as quickly as possible. While we can get them geared up we really can't officially push the button with them until the two week period of ordering is over if they are going to manufacture these in one run. If they are willing to do the order in a split run then we may be able to get some done earlier.

Nice and simple and matches the forum logo, and a little work with a red sharpie will give you the red Canon and line which we could not get because of the single color silkscreen limitation.
Love the strap. Any chances to ask the supplier for 2 colour silk screen? :D

We had gone over this with the manufacturer and the choice is one color of silk screening only. That is why we had two different color choices in the poll that we had ran.

I'll try to order mine next month.. is it possible not to pay by paypal? This is a one time group purchase and we are planning on ending the ordering on April 1st. Currently, all payments are handled through Paypal, but this does not mean you need a Paypal account. You can also use a credit card.
Just as a note to everyone else, we are not sure of an actual ship date yet for all the straps, but I am currently estimating April 20th, since Op-Tech has indicated they need two weeks to make them with the custom silkscreen and we will be placing the order on April 1st. I will continue to update the first post on this thread with the order counts and more definitive dates as we get them from Op-Tech.

Phil has an option on the ordering page for persons who do not have a paypal account.
This ordering page is only going to be active for two weeks. Don't wait too long as you might lose the opportunity.

Question for shipping. If i order more than one, the customs here will charge me extra tax for the strap unless someone writes less value on the package...
You can import stuff lower than 22 euro, say 25 dollar without paying tax. Is it possible to write a lower value on the package?
pcasciola
22nd of March 2005 (Tue), 12:24
I was planning on declaring $10 per strap as the value for the international shipments, since that is roughly the base price of the strap before all the other costs (silkscreen, shipping, packaging, paypal fees, etc.), and I was planning on marking them all as gifts on the customs forms, because that's what it really amounts to. We are really just making a group purchase on the straps, not selling them for a profit, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Just had a look at Warehouse Express over here in the UK and they are selling this strap (without the unique logo) for £16.95 + shipping which works out at $31.95 + shipping. Thanks all of you for you work on this project.
