Does it auto-contrast them or something? Does anyone see the difference between those two shots? One is the "Facebook" version and one is the source jpg in PS. The one on the left is noticeably darker and has more contrast - at least to me. Look at the dog's nose and eyes. Her brown face hair is darker and more saturated on the left. Am I crazy?

I notice the same things. Although most pictures on facebook, in the words of one of my professors, "All came from the same kegger," facebook album don't do my equipment justice.
Here is my latest album. I'm not going to spend the time and show you the PS version, but you all can see the point.

Are you posting your images still in AdobeRGB? You should convert them to sRGB for the web...

That may do it.

No, everything should be sRGB. That's what the camera is set to, and that's how Lightroom exports them.

And you're using a colour managed browser, I assume?

Ding, ding ding! I turned on color management in FireFox 3 (it's off by default) and now the photos are identical between PS and Facebook.

Where would one find color manager? Thanks.

They do compress your photos more. I've noticed a bunch of artifacts turn up in some of my photos.

Upload with a max side of 604 px and it shouldn't be changed much (though I"m not sure if they recompress, it won't be re-sized).

FireFox 3 can be set to color manage. Safari as well.

I've done that a few times, hoping it would likely compress less/less jagged edges etc.
Mostly I'm lazy and upload full res images via the java uploader.
The compression is insane - 20-30kb files mostly! Try and link some shots from album to my blog
New lesson learnt about colour management too

I do know that Facebook strips the EXIF :)
(at least the ONE photo I posted on my profile  )

They show the photos with a flash player so yea, no EXIF is available.

This is also very true, the IQ is crap after their compression.

I resize for my max as 500 pixels and they still f-it up. I usually don't post too much on Facebook photography wise, because its horrible with its compression. Obviously its not a big deal for most people at parties because half of those photos are out of focus or way too dark.
It's funny that before I got into photography those photos never stood out. :)

This is what I do as I used to upload larger files but the resize that facebook does made the images look softer. I always resize to 604px now.
