I've had my s30 for a little over 2 years. Unfortunately, the Lens cover / slide on my s30 just broke. I contacted Canon's tech support where they "offered" to fix my camera for around $150. Or I can get a refurbished s60 for $225.

Is it worth upgrading for an extra $75? Or should I stick with the s30?

Also, is the new lens cover / slide on the s60 really as sensitive as people on the forum are saying? And if it is made of a "lighter material" wouldn't that make it more likely to suffer the same problem that I am currently experiencing down the road.

Is the flash any worse on the S60 than it is on the S30?

Lastly, I've been reading about the new lense. And people complaining about distortion at the edges. Is this something the casual user like myself would notice?

Thanks.

I have an S45, and I know when they went from the S40 to the S45 Canon did some fiddling with the processor if I'm correct... digic processor & all. If its only $75, I'd go for the S60 all the way. Better resolution on your photos, faster processing, and better processing.

I also have an s45, and if I was in the same situation I'd definitely go for the s60. Sad to say but the electronic circuitry in the camera would not be as reliable than the newer cam. And on the upside like what phil said. you'd get 2x more megapixels, the digic processor and the chance to use authentic lens adapters from canon. $75 really don't sound like that much for what you are getting, I would be a bargain actually sice your cam is busted. The $150 canon is asking to fix your s30 is a bit pricey though.
As for the flash, I have only seen the s60 in the store and haven't use it that much, just a couple of shots. But I think the flash is exatly the same, because the flash is still quite near to the lens.
