is a slim b+w kaesmann necessary for 17mm on a full frame'? can i get away with the f-pro mount which is like 1mm thicker?

is the wide angle adater ring a must have for the lee foundation kit and a 17mm lens? is the lee really worth the extra money compared to the cokin z? can i get away with standard adapter rings and no vignetting?

thankyou

1.) F-Pro will work just fine
2.) Wide angle adapter ring is necessary
3.) Lee better than Z-Pro by a longshot

Can't go into more detail right now...typing on an iPhone

thanks for the response argyle, so my best option is the lee foundation kit and wide angle adapter at about $135. is there anything cheaper, thats quite a bit

Yeah, your best option is the Lee foundation kit, by. The Lee holder is only about $12 or so more expensive than the Cokin Z-Pro, and I personally don't find that to be too much of an extra burden...its a much better design than the Z-Pro, so naturally you pay a little more for it. The big difference is in the WA adapter ring and how its designed and machined. The major advantage with the Lee adapter ring is in how it mounts to the lens...its designed to sit about 4mm or so further back on the lens barrel, which really goes far in minimizing or eliminating any vignetting. I tried the Z-Pro for a while, but grew disenchanted with it and bought the Lee kit with Hitech filters. There are cheaper alternatives (such as Cokin P-series), but that set-up has its inherent limitations (holder fixed at three slots and not adjustable, need for a second wide angle holder with only a single slot, etc). If you can swing it, get the Lee foundation kit and don't look back. No one ever said that this is a cheap hobby. :D

will i be able to use the lee filter on top an f-pro filter without vignetting?

If you thread the Lee holder (or any holder for that matter) and the wide angle adapter ring onto the front threads of your polarizer, you will get some vignetting at the wider focal lengths and lose the ability to adjust your CPL since the adapter ring will pretty much cover the CPL's outer ring. How much vignetting will depend upon the number of slots that you set up in the holder (another reason why holders with fixed slots are not a good idea). If you want to avoid the vignetting altogether when using your polarizer, and still have the ability to adjust it, your best bet would be to hand-hold the GND in front of the CPL...lots of shooters do this, myself included at times. The expensive option would be to pick up either a Lee 105mm CPL, or other brand, and attach that to the front of the Lee filter holder. But handholding will work just fine.

FWIW I use a standard B+W F-Pro on my 16-35 II on a 5D and get no vignetting. A slim CPL simply isnt needed for 99% of the configurations out there...
