Hey Guys,

I have been offered a Bowens "Espirit" 500W and 1000W with stands and brollies. They are around 11-12 years old. Though in excellent working condition (except one bulb is broken)

What you you think would be a reasonable offer for me to make for these lights.

Cheers for the help

Is it the modelling light bulb that is broken or a flash tube? Modelling lights are pretty cheap but a flash tube can run into some real money, plus be difficult to find if an older flash such as this is out of production. As for price, I would go to http://www.calumetphoto.com and look at their Traveller flash units. They are made by Bowens and are roughly equivalent. I would offer about half of what the same outfit would cost new.

I have a Bowens QUADX setup that I like. When I first got it I was very enthusiastic and went to their site and tried their forums, but they were brand new and not many users. I'd suggest going there (Google search for 'em) and poking around and asking questions. This is generally not the sort of thing that's going to have an easy/quick answer. I also think that going to Calumet and KEH websites might help.

Bowens have very good customer service. Might be worth mailing them and asking for the cost of the flash replacement. From memory they are about £125 but they have changed the flash mount design in the last 3 or 4 years so getting hold of the older ones might be a problem.
