How many batteries on 5D? (esp 5D MK2)

this is for 5D MK2 or even 5D folks.

How many batteries do you usually go through per wedding on the 5D MK2 or 5D? (full 8hrs)

How many sets of batteries do you go through on the 580EX II?

I've been using the XSI to shoot my family and travel but will be doing weddings in 6 months on my new 5DMK2. I don't burn that much batteries with it so trying to see what I can expect on the 5D2.

I use a battery grip on my 5D's--- I have never had to change batteries in the grip during a wedding. I shoot with two camera and tend to shoot for the entire day--- again two batteries in the grip is all that I need (I do have plenty of back up batteries-- have never needed them).

I put fresh batteries in the 580exII --- if I am doing a lot of shooting I plug it into the external battery pack to recycle quicker.

i bought the grip as well, was going to put 2 in and keep 2 as spares. hopefully i wont need more.

With a grip with two batteries, and two spares, you definitely wont run out....you could probably shoot 2-3 weddings and be fine.

I have a 40D with a grip, I very occasionally manage to get one set of battery to indicate low, but i've never run out of batteries at a wedding. I take four spare batteries to a wedding, I have another 4 brand new unused batteries that I haven't even bothered to take out of their packets.

I took 600 shots on the 5D at my last wedding (new years eve). Have been pottering around on the same battery since then and only now it's starting to indicate low. Canon 1390mAh and no grip.

I have just used a 5DII at a wedding - all day .... 800+ shots and it was still showing 1/3 left.

1 battery on 5D1, but I bring 6 for backup.
580ex plugged in Quantum Turbo so 1 set of AAs to power the electronics through out the day.

Really depends on how much you chimp on your 5D, the most excessive chimping I've seen only drained about 2 batteries completely at the end of the day for a "pro" I shot with.

I've done 13hrs on a wedding with 5D gripped with 2 batts inside. Never had to replaced them on the day. However I carry another 2 just in case.

when i shot with my 5D with grip ( 2 batteries ) .. it was no where near running out ... started at 7am done by 6pm

i've never ran out in one day on a 5d unless they weren't fully charged before hand

5D and 40D both gripped and never run out of battery power during a long day wedding

i dont have that camera but i notice my batteries die really fast when u have the image stabilizer (on your lens) turned on. id drain one battery per wedding!
and make sure your back ups are charged too. i had my camera battery die, grabbed another battery from my pouch and it was dead too!! i was like "OH OH!". good thing my third (and last battery) was fine!
