I'd lower your aperture or carefully pick your backgrounds otherwise the shots look cluttered, mainly #1 + #2

#3 is much better!

Fantastic shots

Had alook at the other ones in your album aswell.Very nice.

Quick question - I've got a Track and field place up the road from me(out door). Can i just turn up when they are training to take photo's of them or do i need special permision ?(in the UK)

I thought the same thing. on most shots you have 1/1600 @ F9 or f/10 with ISO at 640 ??? (why so high? I can only assume it was left on the setting from a previous shoot. I know I've done that before!)
lower the iso, keep lower f stop to isolate the subject from background.
Use a long lens if you have one (you don't say what you are using) a shorter lens gives you much more dof which will result in a cluttered background (I noticed 70mm in a pole vaulting shot, that's fine if you are shooting up with nothing but sky behind the subject). You have a 400mm 2.8 laying around, don't you :)
Also a shutter speed past 1/800 really isn't doing much for you as far as stopping the action goes.
I know you know all this.....

Looks like you had fun! These events are fun to shoot.

Pete,
Thanks so much for the advice. Actually, I'm not that far from a beginner. I shot the track stuff with a Sigma 70-120. Appreciate the advice about the f stop to eliminate background clutter.

Alan B,

I shoot at 4 of the high schools in my area. I started shooting at the high school were my children attended. I was a high profile parent due to all the volunteer work I had done. I did however ask the athletic director for access to the fields prior to shooting. It was not a problem. I secured permission from the athletic directors at the other 3 schools prior to shooting. They were all very gracious. I offer each school pictures for their use.
