Hi, I am 14 years old and would like to start selling some of my photographs.. I'm really young, well not to me but compared to other photographers. I don't think of myself as a professional in my mind but everyone has a different definition. I'm not sure where I should start, I don't think a lot of businesses would take me seriously? That's just my view. If you guys have any suggestions where to start I'd be very grateful. Thank you! By the way I'd like to stay away from those sites like istock etc... Thanks again..

Are you trying to sell to businesses or individuals?

Are you trying to sell online, or over-the-counter?

First of all, find out if there is a local arts and crafts fair. Find out what it costs to set up a table and sell photos.

It wouldn't hurt if you decided to tell us what sort of pics you like to take? You'll probably be able to sell more if you like the subject matter 'cause you'll put more into taking the pic in the first place. Other people might like them better too, and buy some. But it's a bit tough to decide where to sell them when you don't have an idea of what the subject will be, right? ;-)

The main thing to keep in mind is that you cannot legally enter into a contract so that will automatically throw people right off. However, with your parent(s) as a manager, they can assist you in that area. If you approach someone in a professional manner and have all your ducks in a row, including the legal issues, the age situation will dwindle to nothing.

It's great to see someone starting out this early and I think you'll do well. If you/your parents have any lawyer friends I'd discuss these issues with them so you don't head down the wrong path.

This is a great topic so please keep us informed of how you progress.

I saw one kid doing this. He liked bird watching, so he joined the local birders club. After a while, he started doing photography of the most interesting birds. At first, he wasn't any good. After a while, he was.

He would go out on the birding events and watch and learn. Mister Smith would spot something interesting in his binoculars and identify it. The kid would shoot the photo, then turn to Mister Smith and say, "Mister Smith, you certainly spotted that rare blue-crested woodpecker. I think I got the photo, also. Here is my business card if you would like to purchase a photo of it for your records. They are quite reasonable."

You know, after a while, the group liked the kid. He didn't sell very many, but then, Rome wasn't built in a day.

Exactly, Bob. I think he's working the right angles there and can go far if played properly.
