I am completely baffled... ??? ??? ???

I just installed the EOS software that came with my 20D, digital photo professional, and raw shooter essentials. I already have PaintShopPro 9 installed, and have been using PSP for quite some time...

All I wanted to do was mess around with RAW files....and something really strange happened...

EOS Viewer only shows the pictures as if they're faded...they look as if they've been run through a color fade filter.. example here (http://members.ispwest.com/jsolie/raw%20trouble/eos%20viewer%20-%20faded.jpg)
Digital Photo Professional shows pictures in the correct colors, yet I can't seem to find where to adjust the noise and sharpen the image... example here (http://members.ispwest.com/jsolie/raw%20trouble/dpp%20-%20correct%20color%20-%20unsharp.jpg)
Raw shooter essentials only wants to show me pictures in the most hideous bright purple...almost like a B&W image, but with gaudy purple and shades of gaudy purple... example here (http://members.ispwest.com/jsolie/raw%20trouble/raw%20shooter%20-%20purple.jpg)
The RAW file handling of PSP9 will handle the picture, and the colors are correct, but the picture is noisier than ones from my Minolta (which the 20D was bought to replace)... example here (http://members.ispwest.com/jsolie/raw%20trouble/noisy%20image.jpg)

Obviously, I'm doing something wrong. I don't think I'd have four programs each having issues.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I could be doing wrong? I haven't installed Photoshop Elements yet. I really don't want to add a fifth program that might act faded or purple...

Thanks,

-- John

I see in Raw Shooter the tempereture scale is at 0. I have a similar problem, in that at one time I changed some settings in the preferences, and now the "cooler/warmer" adjustment is all messed up. It was telling me that the camera recorded a temperature of 12500, but now the scale goes from -100 to 100. Restting the preferences didn't reset this part of the program. If I find anything out, I'll repost.

Well...I did find something out goofy. It seems some of my RAW files have incomplete EXIF data. Why would this happen? Several of them don't have any of the RAW information in the file. My guess is when they're opened up in a RAW converter, the converter doesn't know what to do with it. Just a guess though.

I just updated RawShooter from 1.0 version to 1.1.1 and all is fixed. Give that a try John.

I might have stumbled across something in RSE...it seems that there's a setting for the RGB working space. If I have it set to anything but "KODAK DC Series Digital Camera" everything is purple purple purple. Even with this setting, if I have the image's magnification at anything above 91%, the display is purple. I might have an older version of RSE, though... And I finally did find the picture to cook the RAW image and then open it with PSP9.

Just updated to 1.1.1 of RSE. It seems to behave the same way as the other version in that need to keep the RGB working space to "Kodak." Hmm...I'm beginning to suspect there's something screwey with my monitor and "color management..." I hope not...I just got the camera and wasn't really planning on having to deal with a monitor...

John, check your settings for RSE under the batch convert tab. If the more options box is showing click on that. Then for the camera profile, be sure internal default is selected. Set the RGB working space to Adobe or SRGB, whichever you use. Also, be sure the bypass color management (expert) option box is unchecked under prefernces. See if that will help.

Hi JimE,

I just tried those settings. Purple, light purple, white with maybe a touch of cyan... ???

It seems to behave itself when I have RGB Working Space set to "KODAK DC Series Digital Camera." Why that and not Adobe or SRGB, who knows. I did take some pictures with the color settings at both SRGB and Adobe.

I don't mean to bump up an old thread, but I wanted to follow up with my purple problem, and the solution for any others that may tread this way in the future...

I went into Display Properties->Settings->Advanced->Color Management and deleted every color profile that was listed in the dialog box. I stumbled across this because I discovered that my PC at work didn't have any issues with purple(magenta)/cyan/white displaying whilst trying to work with a picture.

Things had been okay on my home PC, but things would sometimes revert to magenta/cyan/white when I was working within RawShooter (regardless of the settings). After removing all the color profiles from the display settings, things just magically began working correctly.

I just wish I had figured this out sooner...
