Missing EXIF

I took several outdoor shots today with my 20D and found about half of the pictures have missing EXIF data;,in that the "Camera Raw" area in Photoshop file browzer is blank. Any thoughts on this matter. Thanks.

You might want to be more specific. With some cameras, all EXIF data entries are not complete. With some editors, EXIF is partially read and partially not read. With some converters, EXIF is stripped off and not preserved.

You might try Adobe's "camera raw support" May help with this.

I believe that even though EXIF data is standardized, it is not completely and universally standardized. Some cameras do most or all of it. Some converters will convert and preserve most or all of it. Some image editors will read and display most or all of it.

However, the entire system is not perfect, end to end.

Can you post the fill RAW file and give us a URL? If not, PM me your email address and i'll send you mine and i'll take a look.

Not positive, but have you just changed (downloaded) to Adobe Camera Raw 2.3 or similar, from the one that came on the PS CS CD?

I think if you post processed images before you got 2.3 of the Raw "Add-In", then it will be blank in the Camera RAW section. This includes the original RAW file, JPGs, and TIFs too.

I think most of the problem is my understanding when and how the EXIF data is created. Obviously some of the metadata is created at the time the photo is taken by the camera, and some is created when the RAW file is processed. I'm still trying to sort this all out, but I think -- scratch that -- I KNOW the problem is me and not the software. :)
