Hi,

And first of all thank you because I was facing the "classic" problem of seeing no registered application in "event on device" pop up when pluggin the USB of my brand new Canon Ixus 500 and I found the solution thanks to this forum, THANK YOU !!!

My question is now : isn't it possible to access the pictures on the camera without going through these horrible Canon Software ?
My father had a digital camera that (when plugging the USB) was creating a new drive on the PC and we could browse it !

How can we do that with a Canon Ixus 500 ? Impossible ?
If you have an answer , I will be very glad to read you.

Jimmy

I think the Ixus 500 was on of the first Ixus models to support PTP transfers. You should be able to mount the camera as a drive..

You don't have to install the Canon softwares but you do have to install the camera specific driver so that you can access your camera on the PC.
