Does anyone know - Is there a macro or routine I can use, either in CS PS, C1, XP, or any other app to remove spaces from filenames - but still retain the original name (sans the spaces).

Problem is that my workflow up till now allows spaces in filenames (i.e. 2005-01-05 JU5U3450 4WEB.JPG).

In order to upload to my website (Macromedia FTP to ISP host), I can't have spaces, and its a bother to use the rename function in PS CS because it doesn't let you retain the original filename if you do a batch.

Any how, if anyone can advise, appreciate it.

thanks

Not sure whether this answers your problem cos I,m not clear about the structure of your files after the date but..

ACDSee 7, for example, has search and replace facilities and templates within the renaming of multiple files part of the system. Suspect most 'album' software might have similar.

I noticed that PS7 would replace spaces with a - when 'saving for the web', but I have no clue if that's a default that can be changed to just remove a space.

Can't Irfanview do that in a batch?

I guess for some programs, the trick is in using the ASCII value for a space, and then to substitute another ASCII character value in place of the space.

Thanks all. doesn't sound like there is an easy solution. going forward i've changed to using C1 as a downloader / renamer, which forces no spaces.
