Found this on another forum and thought I would pass it on. It is so true! :D
How many discussion group posters does it take to change a lightbulb?
1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
5 to flame the spell checkers
3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb"
... another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"
1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

Hehe. I'm a math/physics student so these amuse me:
Q: How many mathematicians does it take to screw in a light bulb?
A1: None. It's left to the reader as an exercise.
A2: None. A mathematician can't screw in a light bulb, but he can easily prove the work can be done.
A3: One. He gives it to four programmers, thereby reducing the problem to the already solved (ask a programmer, how)
A4: The answer is intuitively obvious
A5: Just one, once you've managed to present the problem in terms he/she is familiar with.
A6: In earlier work, Wiener [1] has shown that one mathematician can change a light bulb.
If k mathematicians can change a light bulb, and if one more simply watches them do it, then k+1 mathematicians will have changed the light bulb.
Therefore, by induction, for all n in the positive integers, n mathematicians can change a light bulb.
Bibliography:
[1] Weiner, Matthew P,...
How many mathematical logicians does it take to replace a lightbulb??
None: They can't do it, but they can prove that it can be done.
How many numerical analysts does it take to replace a lightbulb??
3.9967: (after six iterations).
How many classical geometers does it take to replace a lightbulb??
None: You can't do it with a straight edge and a compass.
How many constructivist mathematicians does it take to replace a lightbulb??
None: They do not believe in infinitesimal rotations.
How many simulationists does it take to replace a lightbulb??
Infinity: Each one builds a fully validated model, but the light actually never goes on.
How many topologists does it take to screw in a lightbulb??
Just one. But what will you do with the doughnut?
How many analysts does it take to screw in a lightbulb??
Three: One to prove existence, one to prove uniqueness and one to derive a nonconstructive algorithm to do it.
How many Bourbakists does it take to replace a lightbulb: ?
Changing a lightbulb is a special case of a more general theorem concerning the maintain and repair of an electrical system. To establish upper and lower bounds for the number of personnel required, we must determine whether the sufficient conditions of Lemma 2.1 (Availability of personnel) and those of Corollary 2.3.55 (Motivation of personnel) apply. Iff these conditions are met, we derive the result by an application of the theorems in Section 3.1123. The resulting upper bound is, of course, a result in an abstract measure space, in the weak-* topology.
How many professors does it take to replace a lightbulb??
One: With eight research students, two programmers, three post-docs and a secretary to help him.
How many university lecturers does it take to replace a lightbulb??
Four: One to do it and three to co-author the paper.
How many graduate students does it take to replace a lightbulb??
Only one: But it takes nine years.
How many math department administrators does it take to replace a lightbulb?
None: What was wrong with the old one then???

To quickly relate to actual photography :lol:
What filters should you use to compensate for this lightbulb? :lol:
Is it backlight, hairlight, bounce, softbox? What about type of light?
If we're going to solve this properly, we need all the information:lol: :lol:

KevC, here's another math one for you.
We all know that women take a lot of time and money, so:
women = time * money
And since time is money:
time = money
women = money * money
women = money squared
And since money is the root of all evil
evil = square root of money
and we've already established
women = money squared
Therefore:
women = evil :evil:
Sorry gals, but you can't argue this logic. :D

There is only one way to really tell. Buy all the filters for say £900, then take the same photo with each. Magnify each photo to 6000% and examine the differences in the pixels.

Just recently purchased a GE lightbulb......however, I can't seem to mount it correctly!!! When I switch it on, nothing happens!!! Do you guys think I need an adaptor?? Or should I use manual lighting with a candle!!! Really need help here!!!
I also bought another lightbulb........100 WATTS!! Similar size to another lightbulb, however, that one was only 80 WATTS!!! I did some side by side comparison and the 100 WATTS was definitely brighter!!! I love the crispness of the scene and the saturation of the color!!! And my corners are really bright so I think its a good buy!!! I've been just lusting for those 200 WATTS one though :shock:!!!...maybe when I get enough money!!!

I really don't mean to make light of this situation:lol: but the lusting for bigger and brighter lightbulbs will only drive you to the poor-house. This is really a dark matter.
i recently purchased a set of clear lens lightbulbs with 100watt ability, and had to get a zoom control to prevent retinal damage when using the set.:lol:
Metering the brights found that Sunny 16 would be overexposed:D
Shadows are harsh and not easily corrected with these bulbs.
Should I get a lower, frosted set of bulbs, or shoot in RAW to correct expsure issues.:?:

My friend keeps asking me which lamp to get. He's wondering if he should buy the small lamp with 3 dimmer options or should he spend a few more dollars for the bigger lamp with 5 dimmer options. I told him that LAMPS comes and goes............he's better off buying the smaller lamp for now and investing his money on good light bulbs.....It doesn't really matter what lamp you are using, if the lightbulb is powerful enough, it will light up the room just the same. I did however sway him to the Nonac lamp.........as it produces less noise compared to the Nokin lamp when you turn it on.

Nonac and Nokin - very appropriate, since the Canons and Nikons collect the light and the Nonacs and Nokins are on the other side producing it. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Actually the power of th light shouldn't matter, you can get great results with the 100 as you can the 200 but for less money, it all depends on the photographer. I know someone that was able to do everything with some old 75's.
It's sad to see that people think that they can't take good amateur pics with bulbs that arent Lightbulbs. With that said, I would stay away from the sigma bulbs since they are bigger and heavier then the lamp is used to and their metal threaded contacts aren't as compatible as the others.

You tech heads are really beginning to annoy me now. The "Art" is not in the equipment but in the artist. All that these new fangled light bulbs do is make it easier for a someone with minimal talent to get half decent results.
I remember when I started out we only had candles, I then progressed through oil lamps and gas before finally taking the plunge and buying an “Osram 50 Watt pearl finish”
It is safe to say that all the learning I picked up during the “darker” ages has really helped me get to grip with the new technology and the results I get now are all the better for having gone through that evolution..

Actually, sigma "the company" can reconstruct those metal bandings to fit your lamp..........they have been pretty good. I am just not too crazy about the yellowish color cast those sigma bulbs produces.......:lol:
Now I've had several bulbs in the past.......and recently just got addicted to the L bulbs.......now these bulbs are labeled L for "Luminosity", which gives you that added "POP" to the scene..........it is definitely a noticeable POP, my red sweater really looks red and vibrant with the L bulb ON!!! Even people's faces looks almost magical!!! And the background scenery is just to die for with this L bulb.......
BTW, have you seen the new 500 watts L BULB?? They say it can light up a whole STADIUM!!! I was looking at it in H&B and I must say, that thing is HUGE!!! I might have to buy a whole new bigger light socket just to keep that thing in place!!!
