Thanks Pekka, hadn't thought to check again so soon. I suspect they are now working to get the commercial version ready.

Any comments?

Only the ACR and RawShooter highlights are acceptable to me. How he can say that Bibble is "excellent" with that ridiculous and obnoxious highlight is beyond me. So I place no belief in his opinions of quality.

I'm also getting truly sick and tired of people making comments about a product's ability to "reproduce the colour of the car faithfully..." Where was the control? What was used to measure the actual color vs the reproduced color? Did the person even bother to drag the monitor near the car in that lighting and compare? What about bothering with a spectrophotometer? How did this people assess the color differences between the additive and subtractive colors differences between paint and a monitor?
I always figure that such a person simply liked the color in a particular conversion. (I also figure that they smoked a large amount of crack before comparing.) Such statements are simply ridiculous unless you're willing to break out a controlled process - for instance, using a Macbeth chart, a profiled printer, and a spectrophotometer to measure the differences between the actual item and the resulting prints. You'd also have to measure the temperature of the light involved. Anything less is simply a preference, not a measurement, and should not be taken as fact (though it so often is).

I think this is where we start having to think about paying. This one is a 'Trial' version..... in the licensing agreement that you have to click to install it's talking about 15 days before it ceases to work. (At least that's my reading of it - although it does include phrases lijke, '...may cease to open' etc.) So I decided to not install at the moment.
Anybody know for sure if this is still free?

This software works on my IBM laptops but not on my home computers. If you run an AMD Athlon 1400mhz or slower chip it will not run as these processors don't support the needed SSE Intel instruction set. It seems they geared their software towords the Pentium and is not very backwards compattible. It may run on an Athlon XP. Their website is not very forthcoming on this issue.

The author of the program has stated in his support forum it is not limited to any time frame.;)

Question regarding this software... How does one convert to jpeg? I modify the raw and put in batch.. and no jpeg. Am I missing something? I see the folder that contains the modifications.. but no "converted' folder in the diretory.
Nice software but seems to take some getting used to.

Top right corner: click "Batch convert" -TAB and there "more options".

I see that and have it set up for JPEG, Max, EXIF, apply sharpening, automatically open with thumbs7. In naming and output I have it going to the Converted directory next to the raw files. Below that is Add, Stop, Remove, Locate. I understand that the batch will run in the background, but what if I wanted to make it right away. How much time do I give it to make it? I am really missing something here...
thanks,

Mine starts processing as soon as you put the image in the queue. You simply have to wait for it to finish which can be seen as that image disappears from queue box. There is a thermometer meter that runs as the image is being processed so that you can see how far it has progressed or has to go. Generally it looks like it takes around 30 seconds to process an image.
Have you downloaded the pdf instruction manuals. They seem to be pretty decent.

Got it. It helps if you "add" the image to the batch to convert. I saw the image in the column on the right side and assumed that it would be converted but couldn't figure out how to start it off. Was looking for "go" or "start".
Okay.. now I like the program much better. Maybe even better than Canon's DPP.
Thanks for the help.

I downloaded it yesterday (3/25) and it won't run on my AMD 1400. I get an error that says that it requires a SSE enabled Intel Pentium III class cpu or better.

It would be great If Magne would create profiles for use with RSE.
Dale,
Magne took 2 of my RAWs (chosen primarily because I wanted to see results with greens, yellows, purples) and did a beta profile of them. He said he was only seeing what it was like to work with RSE--primarily for color, not for tonality, saturation, but he did a very good job. This was with version 1.1 I think--not 1.1.1 which seems better for greens (Michael at Pixmantic had me send one of them to him to work with greens also--and it newest version does seem better---PLUS having the ability to set up your own camera's parameters is a major plus and has helped me get closer to what I get in C1/ETC profiles without resorting to selective color masking in PS).
Here is a little gallery I did of RSE with and without Magne's 'beta004' RSE profiles
http://www.pbase.com/picnic/rse_w_etc
and here is one that I did with vs. 1.1 prior to the ability to use camera parameters comparing it to C1 with Magne's profiles (and what prompted him to try his own RSE profile). http://www.pbase.com/picnic/rse_c1
He has said that he hasn't made a commitment about buildling profiles but if he does---he will wait until RSE settles in a bit as far as new versions go.
