With so much interest in trains here on the forum, I decided to post these photos taken last summer in Alaska with a (boo hiss) Sony digicam. The first is an old snow plow engine no longer in service. The other is the regular passenger train that runs from Seward to Fairbanks (I think), passing Denali NP along the way.

I am insanely jealous. I once mentioned that I'd like to go to Alaska and ride the trains, and my wife responded, "You want to go where and ride what?" I have a feeling it won't happen in my lifetime unless they open a major mall in Fairbanks with a Louis Vuitton store in it.

I have to ask when were you in Seward? We were there in mid to late June. We also were in an RV (5th wheel), Tan F350, and a silver Honda. There were 4 of us and our Siberian Husky. We met so many people, but when I saw your pictures they looked distinctly familiar. I think we stayed in the same RV park in several locations.
Just trying to catch up with a few people and I happened to run across your images.
Sincerely,

Great shots. That is one huge snowblower. Number two is beautiful with the mountains as a perfect background.

Thanks for all the comments.
Jerry, we actually visited Seward on a day trip while the motorhome was parked in Portage Valley, June 21 or 22. We have a (mostly) brown Monaco Windsor and tow a silver Honda Pilot. Don't actually remember the rig you describe, but we did meet a lot of folks on the trip. I think almost everyone stayed at Anchorage RV. Appreciate your viewing the gallery.

Not sure what they call it, but it's essentially a propeller. It is a rotary snow plow, whose blades catch and throw snow from the tracks.
