I have recieved FlashTrax 30GB and I have discovered:I can copy row format, if I use JPEG+ROW, but if I use only ROW I cannot see.
Same memory card works very good, but pq1 very bad (only HI-Speed works good).

Any information, please.

The Epson P-2000 supports display of the imbedded jpeg in the RAW files.

I just got it a few days ago and it displays all my raw files.

So Epson P-2000 displays ROW with imbedded jpeg format, is it correct? If it is correct that FlashTrax do the same. But my ? is: any other portable storage can display only ROW format without imbedded ipeg format or not?

I use row, and I can take more shots, then row+jpeg.

I don't know if there are other devices that display the actual RAW format (not row).

Do You really need to be able to see the actual RAW? Isn't the imbedded jpeg good enough? (It is to me).

Tommy, In some cameras such as the 1DmkII you can shoot RAW with no JPEG (jpeg files are not imbedded in the RAW file, but saved in addition to). There is no portable storage device that I'm aware of that will allow viewing RAW formats other then the Nikon CoolWalker which is only good for Nikon RAW.

Yeah, but the user asks specifically about the 20D not the 1D mk II.

According to the support site, the Epson P-2000 will allow viewing of RAW files created by several EOS cameras including the 10D and 1DMKII, but not the 20D. Perhaps they will upgrade at some point to add new formats, such as .CR2. I sent an email to their tech support asking them about plans for upgrades and will post the answer if I receive one.

20D RAW files are supported. I have a 20D, shoot RAW and use the Epson P-2000.

RAW files cannot be zoomed or added to slide show feature. The newly released firmware update allows large file size so all Canon digital are supported.

Thank you. It is what I am asking. So, you shoot just RAW, not RAW+JPEG.Right?
Thank you all and sorry about my English (I am originally from Russia).

Great! I guess Epson just hasn't updated their web site yet.

roleg...I have the FlashTrax 40G and a Canon 20D. After reading your post I selected RAW only on the 20D and then uploaded the compact flash to the FlashTrax. I can see the image. Perhaps your problem may be not having the latest firmware installed on the FlashTrax. Go here for the latest

I use a Lexar 12X card. Bedtime here now...I'll check the setup on the FlashTrax tomorrow morning, may be something there.

My 80 gb FlashTrax can view RAW CR2 files from my 20D. I originally got it to use with the D60, and it could not view RAW files from the 20D when I first got that camera. I downloaded a software upgrade for the FlashTrax and it works fine now.

Note that it does not actually view the RAW data, but instead looks at an imbedded JPG file. This is not really good enough for evaluating photos, but I prefer to do that when I download to my computer at home. I got the FlashTrax mainly for storing images while on trips.

I understand that the Epson 2000P has a better preview, but it only comes in 40gb maximum storage, so it might not be enough for long trips if you are shooting a lot of RAW photos.

Tom thank you very much. You helped me. I change memory for SanDisk and I am OK now. I took few shots only in RAW and I can display and see. Thank you. FlashTrax is very good now for me too. Thanks everybody for help.

If you want to get the Epson update immediately, it is available on the Japan site. The site is in Japanese, so it may look intimidating, but only took me a few minutes to download and update the unit.

There are instructions (in English!) on how to do this available at www.luminous-landscape.com .

Hopefully the English language Epson sites will have it posted soon.

Just so there is no confusion. The new firmware is not required for 20D support. I have not upgraded mine yet.

Not to be picky, but I believe you said that the P-2000 displays the embedded Jpeg within the RAW, while roleg is looking for something that displays the actual RAW image.

So, I guess my question would be - do all of the RAW formats include an embedded Jpeg or does the P-2000 actually display the RAW image for the other formats?

That is correct, the 20D RAW files worked fine with the original firmware. I applied and mentioned the update as a matter of interest for those who might be worried about the size limitation and, like me, are only happy when they have the "latest and greatest". ;>)

The RAW option produces two files, one of which is the THM file. This contains a small JPEG image.

I do not know for certain, but am under the impression that the Epson is viewing the actual RAW file, not the THM.

BRUCE- yes the P2000 displays RAW. It does not zoom RAW files but that is a minor thing.

Rumor has it that a firmware upgrade is due this week.

I have had my P2000 for about 3 weeks and sold several prints from it. Makes a nice "proofing device".

I got the answer back from Epson that for the 20D, the P-2000 displays the jpeg file that is stored in the RAW file header info (as tommykjensen said) so I then asked whether that was true for all formats of RAW supported by the P-2000. They must have tired quickly of the questions because they sent me a copy of the full specs for the device (RTFM indeed!) and it is stated in there that this is true for all supported RAW files, which makes sense.

I know this thread is old but I’m purchasing a 20G FlashTrax from someone and I know Tom Reid and Roleg had a discussion about this. I also use the Sandisk cards so I presume my FlashTrax will not display Raw files from my 20D using the sandisk card.

Now Tom you mentioned that it will display raw files from the Lexar 12X card.
My question to Tom or anyone is will it read any of the Lexar cards. Because the largest 10x you can get is 1G so the one I want which is a 2G is 80X speed. If it reads this then I’m in good shape.

Thanks

I don't think it's a question of the memory card you use as much as what type of camera and the raw file it saves to card. I now have a 20D and I can view its raw images uploaded to the Flashtrax.
